Had to see the dentist today.
Hard to find one on a Sunday.
For the last couple of months I have had an off and on toothache. Somedays nothing, somedays a dull ache, somedays maybe a six or so on the scale. Couple of ibuprofen and it would pretty much subside. Yesterday, however, it kicked it up to an eight or so. And stayed there. By midnight it was knocking ten pretty hard and pushing on the envelope. Only relief was applying pressure to the joint right below the pivot point. Can't do that and sleep so it made for a long night. By this morning ten was no longer on the scale. I have had kidney stones many times and I swear this rivaled all but maybe two occasions. Never had a tooth hurt this bad. I immediately searched for a dentist open on Sunday. Nada. Nope. Nothing. So I asked on FB if anyone was aware of someone open today. Ace Dental, just a couple of miles away, was open til two. I hurried on over and was the last patient admitted. Diagnosis was a large, infected cavity on the front face of the rearmost tooth between it and the next tooth. Options were antibiotics for a few days, return and maybe save or pull it; antibiotics for a few days, return and possibly get a crown; pull that puppy today. I chose three. A few shots, some tugging, and it was done. Script for some percocets and all is well. Turns out after getting it out there was a hole in one root below the gumline, likely where I was getting the pressure causing the toothache. Receptionist said they didn't take insurance, it had to be cash or card. I kindly told her at this point I didn't care. Whatever it costs would be worth it. Bill was $220, but she knocked $40 off because I had insurance and wasn't able to use it. I thanked her, smiled a crooked smile and paid the lady. Still a little sore but nothing the percocets can't handle. Ready for some sleep tonight! |

Sounds like a good deal. The last extraction I had, 5-6 years ago, cost me $440.

I love the dentists office I go to. No dudes working there, no heffalumps, and all the chicks including the two dentists are highly able

I had a molar removed about 2 years ago on the bottom, and now I have to get an implant to prevent my upper molar from dropping.
I end up going to the dentist every 3 months for cleaning. I wish I would have taken better care of my teeth when I was young and foolish. |

I guess I'm too cheap. I would have toughed it out and gone for the antibiotics and gotten a crown. Even a crown + root canal is a whole lot cheaper and less invasive than an implant. You'll now have to have an anchor drilled into your jaw bone for a replacement tooth.

I once had a similar situation. All our local ones are closed Fri-Sun. I called my regular Dr. and he called me in some antibiotics and a mild pain killer. Later on they did open an Aspen Dental (franchised) place that covers the hrs., the locals won't cover.
