Paul Pelosi; slurred speech, had drug in system, and handed over police privilege card during DUI bust

Paul Pelosi, the multimillionaire husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, allegedly had a drug in his system, addressed officers with slurred speech, and tried to hand them a police courtesy card during his May arrest on DUI charges, according to court documents.

Pelosi's 2021 Porsche and the other driver's 2014 Jeep sustained "major collision damage" in a crash around 10:17 p.m. on May 28, and responding officers found Pelosi in his driver’s seat in his damaged car near the intersection of California Route 29 and Oakville Cross Road.

Pelosi allegedly handed officers his driver’s license and an "11-99 Foundation" card when they asked for his ID, according to the documents. The 11-99 Foundation is a California Highway Patrol charity that supports officers and provides scholarships for their children.


Pelosi allegedly exhibited "signs of impairment" during field sobriety tests and officers "observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication," according to the documents.

Those allegedly included "red/watery" eyes.

"He was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcohol beverage emanating from his breath," the complaint alleges.

The other driver, identified only as John Doe, was standing outside an SUV, according to the documents.

Both of them declined medical treatment at the scene, but Doe on June 2 told Napa County prosecutors that he had begun suffering pain in his upper right arm, right shoulder and neck the day after the crash. He also complained of headaches and said it was difficult to lift things with his right arm, according to the documents.

Pelosi allegedly injured the other driver "while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and a drug and under their combined influence," the first count in the two-charge complaint reads.

Investigators later determined he had a blood-alcohol content of .082%.

Pelosi’s attorney, Amanda Bevins, told Fox News Digital, "I believe that the drug reference is part of the statutory boilerplate language in the complaint."

Can't speak to his intent but the card may have been given to him to be presented during police interactions. Like a lib version of the concealed carry permit. Useful to signal an officer that he's not dealing with a cop hater or immanent threat to his safety.

Concealed weapon permits serve much the same purpose due to the extent of the background checks. A cop instantly knows he isn't dealing with a career criminal when it's handed to him. The change in their demeanor is notable. Haven't been given a ticket since I began presenting it (as required by law), only warnings. Coincidence? Don't know, you decide

If you watched the second season of Quantico the CIA trainees were given cards like this in case they got arrested during one of their training ops. Until now I had no idea those things were real.

Back in 2007, I flew into Logan. Damn airline put my bag on another plane and they bought me lunch as an apology until that plane showed up.

So, I am eating next to the baggage claim area just looking down on it all. I saw this old guy in a suit, a woman and 2 of those Portuguese Water Dogs.

They were both getting their luggage and dealing with these damn overactive dogs. Well, the woman left to go to the bathroom and this guy started heading towards the door.

I had nothing to do but wait for my bag and I went over and asked him if he wanted some help not getting a clear look at him. He says "thanks, take this one" and we went go outside.

Walking off to the side to a grassy area and with 2 State Troopers only feet away watching, Both dogs took a piss and one took a dump.

Afterwards, his wife showed up with the luggage, he shook my hand and said thanks. Then off Senator Kennedy went in their car with the Trooper escort

For a lifelong drunk like Paul, that's a rookie number. He couldn't possibly have been actually impaired drunk with a low number like that. Maybe that would be impairing for someone who doesn't really drink much.

Depends on what drugs he was using. They aren't specific. Some prescription drugs have a synergistic effect with booze. Washing the recommended dose down with two beers can produce a result equal to drinking a keg and you'd still only test with the alcohol content of two beers.
