No can do at this time. I need to keep patching and praying.

To replace is about $8k.

Plus, without exception, of my personal friends that have replaced units, the replacements don't get their houses nearly cool enough. I have 4 friends or coworkers that have done replacements and all of them say the new refrigerants suck.

Selfish prick, just think of all the money you'd save by buying a new AC with the high SEER rating. You'd be saving the planet and about $13.00 a month on your electric bill.

Not exactly sure. I "think" it is 1.5 ton. That price is installed. Now that I recall, it may have been $6k.

If I could braze worth a shit, I would. I'd REALLY like to have one of those induction heaters for brazing. It looks ridiculously easy. Fast heat, no soak.

Not to mention I have had a hell of a time finding little oxygen bottles.

This sounds just like our ac. Waiting on new one now. Considered getting a couple of window units. It was 79 in here again last night. Back down to 72 now. Crazy!

I'll be sure to let my clients know we are scamming them next time they ask us to replace one of these and have it running, programmed, and air balanced in 24 hours.

I live in high humidity NE Floriduh, and so we keep the single story 1700' slab house on a hillside at 77-78f inside temps so far this year....outside is 105 or so....keeping it much cooler is rather painful for my ass suffering from ArthRONGis.....the humidity is pretty dry inside....instant noticed going in/out....

Home based HVAC knuckleheads. Commercial is completely different, unless for any perceived issues you automatically recommend a system replacement.

That hasn't been our experience, but then I watch while the AC guy is here and talk to him since I have some AC knowledge from my Navy days. Last time we had the capacitor replaced he took me outside, showed me step by step how to replace it and said I can order them cheap from Amazon.

Our 10 year old system has been struggling lately when it's real hot out so I called them yesterday to come check if it needed charged. Guy just left. He checked everything, blew out the drain line from the air handling unit, and said it doesn't need charged. He showed me the corrosion from salt air on the coils in the unit outside that impede heat transfer and said it's time to replace it. I knew systems typically last 8-10 years here on the beach and our current system is 10 years old. Waiting on a quote now to replace it and decide what to do from there.

Just bend over.

Had to replace or downstairs and upstairs units a couple years ago. Almost had to take out a second mortage to pay for them.
