Never had a GSD. I’m posting here because I’m a dog lover. Good thread. I’m a Labrador guy and was a noob 8 years ago.
Had my 1st trained as a bird dog and hunted her pretty well for a while. I really enjoyed the training and hunting experience. I worked with Morningside Kennels in Tallahassee. We trained on several plantations in South Georgia (bird dog capital). The 8 year old black female is purebred. She was a gift from a wealthy man who’s gentleman farm I developed over a 7 year period. I was there the morning she was born and picked her from the litter. That was also a cool experience. She is smart as a whip and near perfectly behaved. Wow what an animal. My 5 year old is a chocolate from another friend but not a purebred. And not nearly as smart or articulate. We did some behavioral training but she’s not a hunter. But a super sweet girl who is kind of a rescue. Poor thing had all kinds of problems as a puppy. Intestinal issues. Urinary issues. Had a broken rear leg at 11 weeks old. And was born with a twisted front paw. We considered her our special needs animal. With our love and professional help she is an awesome dog. Has retriever in her blood and will play all day. I love these two girls like oxygen. They follow me everywhere. They take up all my free time and cost me exorbitant amounts of cash. My wife is a great dog owner and contributes greatly. If I had life to do over I may have been a dog trainer. I loved the experience that much. Already thinking about another puppy when we move to the new rural homestead I’m now planning. (Shhh…don’t tell my wife. LoL) Btw- I give Thomas a shout out here. I picked up a few things from him early on about the dog life, training and handling. |
