Thanks, but none of the pix I have found in manuals, decades old, or pix on .net tell me what I need to know.....that is about the rear passages of the cyl haads....they blocked off at the intake manifolds, apparently.....or is there some other trick I not aware of???
I have had a huge problem with my 350 /L98 headed engine, and am wondering if I didn't screw up with returning the water...... |

Gene.
Just either Google your exact question, or use U-Tube the same way. Actually, have the better half do it for you https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...ines-rear.html or https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-question.html Read the entire thread |

Just had my '85 L98 off yesterday due to water leak on rear passenger side. Both left and right rear water passages have a water restrictor plate that fits into the manifold head gasket opening to cover the head water passages. The plates have a ~1/8" drill hole in them that allows/restricts water into the rear of the manifold. The manifold openings on my '85 are a small ~1/2" deep blocked pocket - water does not circulate thru the back intake pockets. If the plates are not installed correctly in the gasket (fits inside a channel around the plate), water leakage galore!! |

Far as I remember from the install years ago, I was told to drill two ~1/8" holes in the gaskets, they were made for total blockage of those rear passages, and so I drilled and made two outlets on the modified intake manifold, and plumbed them forward so to circulate the water......after the issue, upon pulling the head, all 4 cyl had water in them......head gasket looked tired, but no clear failure indication....same with intake gasket......
but upon reading the other threads suggested above, It's a common issue.... |
