Default Corvette Question?

So what would be bad if the shifter in my '09 Z06 actually MOVES when I'm in gear. For example, if I shift into 1st or 2nd gear, and the gear is properly engaged, but I can MOVE the shifter to the right while the car is driving, yet it stays in gear.

Lower shift box is used up. Had that exact problem on my 2000. Shifted in to gear, and I could still move the handle around to other gear positions.

Is that inside the transmission or above it? How involved is this?

There is a guy at the other place that just started rebuilding the lower shift boxes, seems to be a pretty good upgrade. May change out the box on one of my cars and see how much of an improvement it really is.

Craig, I have all the faith in the world that whatever part you replace, you can break again while racing.

This is the street car, not the race car. Other Z06 still on ice for now.

Just ordered the MGW kit with the lower unit that uses the stock shifter knob. $378 not a bad deal, and going short throw should add to the fun.

Dear God yes. I've built a Z06 from front to back, just never replaced the shifter. Engine, transmission, torque tube, differential, chassis, everything...I can almost build this car blindfolded now.

From what I've read and watched, this is basic tools only. Not a tough job at all.

I've done engines and chassis, but never transmissions with the exception of shifters. Good that you can take care of it yourself!
