it's just not a wedding until multiple police departments have to respond
Seven arrested at wedding reception melee in Ontelaunee | Reading Eagle - NEWS
A brawl erupted during a wedding reception in Ontelaunee Township, leading to the arrest of the groom and six others, Northern Berks Regional police said Monday.About a dozen police departments in Berks County responded to restore order in the melee Saturday at Blue Falls Grove.Four officers — two officers each from Northern Berks Regional and Muhlenberg Township — were taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the melee, Northern Berks Chief Scott W. Eaken said. Police said that the brawl ensued after a woman was punched in the face by another woman. The victim confronted the woman about allowing her own 14-year-old son to drink beer, police said.Officers initially responded to Blue Falls Grove on Bowers Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. for a brawl reportedly involving a dozen people in the banquet hall, he said. When they arrived, people were scattered on the grounds, some of them shirtless and bloodied, according to Northern Berks Officer Sean Showalter's report.Showalter was approached by a man who said he was punched in the face, breaking his glasses, by a woman who also assaulted his wife, apparently triggering the brawl.“Several people were trying to be a calming influence in all of this but at this point alcohol had taken over,” Eaken said.Bride upsetThe bride was on the ground, surrounded by several females, police said. Showalter asked if she was all right, and she said she was not but “was just very upset at what happened,” Showalter wrote in a probable cause affidavit. The bride was later treated by Muhlenberg ambulance for alcohol poisoning and dehydration. As police tried to restore order, the groom, Nicholas Papoutsis, 31, of the 600 block of Christopher Street, Wernersville, challenged the officers to fight, police said.Showalter repeatedly advised the man to back down.“I tried reasoning with him, telling him that he didn't really want to get arrested on his wedding night,” Showalter wrote in the affidavit. But police said Papoutsis kept advancing on the officer, so he was taken into custody by Showalter and Officer Andy Barrow from Muhlenberg.Papoutsis was charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with the administration of law, and public drunkenness, police said.According to police:Mandi L. Groh, 32, of the 100 block of South Miller St., Shillington, punched a woman because she was upset that the woman confronted Groh about allowing her 14-year-old son, who was drunk, to drink beer.Police stopped Groh as she tried to drive from the grounds with her son and her young daughter in her vehicle. The boy was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where his blood alcohol level was determined to be 0.16 percent, twice the legal limit for an adult to be considered too intoxicated to drive.Groh's husband, Jesse Groh, 38, was also arrested after someone pointed him out as he headed to their vehicle shortly after officers arrived. His untucked dress shirt was covered with blood and he refused to answer questions. Showalter handcuffed him and found three large folding pocket knives in his pants pocket.Showalter then went to assist Officer Angel Toro, who was dealing with an unruly intoxicated male.Several witnesses said the Grohs watched their son drinking beer. The Grohs were charged with corruption of minors, furnishing alcohol to minors, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and obstruction of justice.Shortly after arriving, Showalter and Toro found themselves being berated and threatened “by numerous intoxicated individuals.”Police call for helpThey called for backup. Through the county communications center, Showalter called for an “air priority” for all additional available police units to respond because the crowd “was getting riled up and turning on us even more.”Units from the Fleetwood, Hamburg, Penn State Berks and Wyomissing departments responded, along with Bern, Spring, Tilden and Muhlenberg police and two Reading police K-9 units. The Berks County sheriff's office sent a prisoner transport vehicle. Before their additional backup arrived, Toro and Barrow observed a fracas inside the banquet hall and approached to investigate, but they were met at the door by an intoxicated man who refused to let them in.The man, Brian R. Pelker, 46, of the 400 block of Hill Road, South Heidelberg Township, refused to get out of the way, yelled at officers and took on a fighting stance. After warning him to get out of the way. Barrow used a stun gun on him to no effect. He tried to use the stun gun again but Pelker only got more aggressive, so Barrow took him down with a baton.Once on the ground, Pelker struggled with officers and grabbed one of them in the crotch before he was subdued.Pelker was charged with aggravated and simple assault, obstructing administration of law, public drunkenness and related offenses.Arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, failing to disperse and related counts were: William Papoutsis Jr., 32, of Robesonia, and his wife, Jessie Papoutsis, 31; and Fabian Burgos, 32, of the 1000 block of Pike Street. The defendants were free to await further court action after arraignment in Reading Central Court. - See more at: Seven arrested at wedding reception melee in Ontelaunee | Reading Eagle - NEWS |

It's not a good party until the cops show up. It's not a great party until they show up twice.
