The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an internal investigation after an officer reported that a photo of George Floyd with the words “You take my breath away” in a Valentine-like format was being “passed around” by other officers, Chief Michel Moore said Saturday.

Moore said the officer who made the complaint is set to be interviewed Monday, and the department’s goal is to determine exactly where and how the image may have come into the workplace, online or otherwise, and who may have been involved.

“Our investigation is to determine the accuracy of the allegations while also reinforcing our zero tolerance for anything with racist views,” the chief said.

If the department confirms officers were circulating the image, “people will find my wrath,” Moore said.

Regardless of one’s feelings on the George Floyd situation, you have to know that this was not appropriate in any workplace, right? Well, it’s not appropriate if you want to keep your job... If their goal was to potentially get fired, mission accomplished.

These days, yeah, I'd agree. We're contractors, and we've had the same accounts for decades, so we know our customers very well, but I'd never EVER say or bring up ANYTHING personal in any way with, say new operators I don't know well. Any talk is strictly about the job, and I'm usually the one feeling uncomfortable if a new operator starts talking about anything non work related. I'll usually just say "gee, I really don't know much about it," and just kind of leave.

There is nothing good that's going to come from personal interactions, sharing a joke, whatever, especially with the new hires being almost exclusively women and non white. At best, nothing bad might happen. Best to say as little as possible, keep to ourselves, and just do the job.

Back, 10, 20 years ago, plant operators were a raucous bunch, this kind of thing would be passed around and laughed at by everyone. It was fun. Now? No way.



Edit: I bet the cop who complained will find that when (s)he needs help or backup, that help will be veeeerrrry slow to arrive. I know I wouldn't be too interested in trying to help someone like that, and I certainly wouldn't want that person as a partner.
