I never had a dishwasher prior to moving into this house. I guess I lucked out because it's a Bosch. It does seem quiet compared to others I've heard. Seems to do a good job cleaning the dishes too.

I've had it for 6 years with zero problems. I'd buy another one.

All Bosch appliances in the kitchen.

And Bosch makes a better cordless drill than Desuckwalt, too.

I guess I'm in the minority. My Bosch dishwasher was quiet, but it took 2 hours to complete a cycle. At 3 years it needed a $200 part, another $150 at 4 years. Finally it couldn't be repaired. I even looked at buying another one because of its quietness, but no Bosch has a heated drying cycle. Got a Kitchen-Aid that does, just as quiet as a Bosch, has a 1-hour cycle.

While we may be heading in that direction, Bosch dishwashers are made in North Carolina, USA.

If Bosch built BMWs I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, BMW builds BMWs.

Yep. BSH, New Bern NC. And they've got a couple of ads out for engineering positions. And they're just an hour from the Crystal Coast.

* * *

From an engineering standpoint, the reason Bosch achieves such quiet operation is, they don't include a "food macerator" feature to chunk up / pulverize food you leave sticking to the dishes.

The macerator is what makes the awful grinding noise most old-tech washers produce.

Steve, keep an eye on the instruction manual and see if there's a screen or something you have to clean out regularly.

I'll do that, thanks for the heads up

That's correct, but there's more to it than that. Right?

Can't remember more. Going off an old Consumer Reports article I read once a few years ago.

Also: Thicker ss walls, uses heat (ambient) instead of a heating element to dry the dishes, much more insulation, etc,...

The macerator was only one cycle anyway...

So quiet it needs a light at the bottom to tell you it's running.

Up next: Bosch builds wives!

...The filter that keeps wash water free from food is a big factor in dishwasher noise. Many filters are self-cleaning, with a grinder that pulverizes debris and flushes it down the drain. The feature is convenient but it can also be noisy. Manual filters do away with the grinder for softer operation, though some consumers are turned off by having to handle a slimy filter. Bosch dishwashers have always used a manual filter...
That's from a quick search of CU.org.
