Default Shipping a piece of furniture - advice?
Have you ever used a shipper to have a piece of furniture moved across country? If so, who'd you use, and how was it done?

I have an antique pie hutch that I need to have moved from my mom's home in Minnesota to me, here in Texas. I've thought about driving up to pick it up, but the two day drive up I-35...I'd rather not. Any help/advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

FedX can do it for you. I believe UPS as well.

It won't be cheap

proper crating is the key. and insurance.

I have a friend that shipped an antique hutch from Mississippi to Virginia and it was "destroyed" by the time it got here. Looked like it was dropped from about ten feet on one corner. Insurance paid for it but the actual furniture was a loss. I believe the courier was FedEx?

Contact Mike Erb - truckindj on here. He has a shipping/trucking company that isn't far from Minnesota.

He might at least know where to point you if he can't do it.

Otherwise fly up and rent a one way truck to bring it back. Road Trip!

A week ago I would have been... I've got a client today and I'm meeting with another one on Sunday who may be for the remainder of the summer. Even if she doesn't work out, Jon and Talon are leaving for San Diego next week. If she doesn't work out and you can wait a couple of weeks I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to remind folks that "insurance" purchased from UPS (maybe FedEx as well) isn't really insurance. They pay only if you can prove it was their fault; even then it's a hassle because they automatically blame it on improper packaging and deny your claim. The last time I had something of value to be shipped by UPS they sold me "insurance", but then they wanted an additional $45 to put into a different box because my box wasn't new. When it arrived it looked like a truck had run over the package, but they denied my claim. I had to sue them to get my money ($4500).

Also, UPS Stores are, according to UPS, independent dealers, and they want you to take it up with the store.
