Hard to say, almost looks like that was a 60/40 crash. The Integra took a strange outside line and the Porsche went on some weird inside line that made him go slow.
The Integra was off throttle and gaining on the slower car trying to stay off the brakes, his car kicked out a bit and by the time he was straight, he was on the Porsche. If you brake there, you'll spin. He tried to jack the brakes at the left hander and he STILL couldn't go slow enough.
Short version: Porsche was too slow and Integra was too fast.
I have spun right where that Integra got loose and ended up out in the grass. I have also come up on people that go slow there and almost hit them.

Start this video at 3:40.
I was not being aggressive and I STILL almost hit the guy twice.

Oh, and to the OP, my last on-track was the same experience, except mine turned out to be a broken piston.

I've noticed a lot of the higher hp cars like that line. I can't hold that line with and respectable speed though. I know the video is a little outdated, but I notice you take the left hander a little different than I do. I apex that turn as late as I can so I can get the car settled for the right hander and carry speed down no-name. A lot of driver's don't do this and it's my favorite pass to make.

He said he kept his foot in the gas when he went off.

I've come up on slow cars in every corner of the track. I never assume I'm going to be given room. In racing, to assume is to cause wrecks.

Painted up to look like one. I doubt he ever made it up to your region.

How does NASA run their events and licensing process? The SCCA requires you go to 2 school days (less if you go to a $$$ school like Barber, Panoz, Bondurant), then complete 2 races before you get a license. They also hold test days, but a competition license is required to run a test day. How does NASA do it? You mentioned a TT license. Can you acquire a time trial license without holding a competition license?
In theory, you are supposed to do at least 1 day each in HPDE 1, 2, 3, and 4 getting checkrided off each time to advance to the next level. (TT) In practice, if you demonstrate that you know what you are doing and/or can have someone vouch for you, it goes faster. Jason from "that place" showed up for the first time with no references, and went through his 4 checkrides in a day and was TTing on day 2. He vouched for me and I was allowed to start at HPDE 4 and was checkridden that weekend for TT.

A really great bunch to hang around, MHO.

In the vette, I use the left hander as a throw away and then stand on the throttle, carrying a lot of speed through no-name straight. I have an Integra and it does get loose if you have it torqued up in a turn and then get out of the throttle.

I don't know if I would go as far as 60/40 but that is the same point that I was getting at. If the Porsche takes a normal line through 1, this doesn't happen IMO. Instead, he took that inside line and had ZERO momentum at the exit. From behind it looks for certain that the Integra drove in too hard and tried to make a pass that he shouldn't.

I wouldn't doubt that from the driver's seat of the Integra it looked like the Porsche all but stopped in the turn and with a run as big as he had there wasn't really anywhere to go. Perspective is a funny thing.

As for the 2nd contact, without sitting behind the wheel, it is hard to say for sure whether he did the right thing or not. It sure does look a lot easier on video. We all know that.

Good point. However, since he effectively entered way early on the corner, I would have WAY braked on entry there anticipating a wide track out (and possible off) by the Porsche and pulled the inside. However, I am not a momentum car driver, and frequently depend on HP to save my ass.

It is hard for me to follow that an early entry offers the opportunity for an outside pass.

This gives a better perspective, it is shot from a C6 Z06. Start it at 4:50. I am driving a silver C5 Coupe. You can see how I go deep and turn in late putting a gap on the Z that goes in tight and early. I don't know how I would drive it in the
miata because it doesn't have the hp to storm out of that turn.

Now you're taking that a couple feet wider than I do. My line is more like that of the yellow Z06. I'll try that line if I run the race on the 2nd.
I tend to hit the apex ~ 3 or 4ft before the end of the new curbing.

My car will not out accelerate a C6Z, you can see him almost reeling me in on the straights at 14;30, but since I am on the throttle earlier, I am way out on him before he can get the car settled and apply power. My intitial line into big bend is funny because I made my pass at the brake zone and had to get the car rotated and on line while still scrubbing speed. I usually don't trail brake there but I had to in order to not go in the dirt. I usually stand on the brakes from the left side of the track and plant the nose to turn in. On that pass I had to come from the opposite side of the track so I apexed a little late.

He doesn't seem that fast either. He didn't get back on the power until the exit of the downhill. I'm quickly jabbing the brake just before turn in to set the weight to the front and then put the gas pedal to the floor. I should be taking that turn flat out.

Do you notice you are able to carry more speed at the exit of big bend when you don't trail brake? I brake from the 3 almost until the apex. I then am at about half throttle until I start to turn into the second half of the turn. I get past the most at the exit of big bend and entry of the left hander and I can't seem to figure out why, especially when a lot of those cars are matching or outbraking me going into big bend.

Not sure what speeds you are carrying but I am at around 135-140 in the front straight and then I stand on the brakes deep (ABS car) and try to get all of my braking done before I turn the wheel.
I usually feed into the thottle right at the apex but then get on the brakes for the left hander. You can tell when I am WOT because I was burning a lot of oil and my car does the James Bond smokescreen. In the downhill, I tap to settle the nose but I have seen stock C5Z's go in no brakes at close to 100mph in that turn. I'm not at that point yet.

So you're gliding between turn in and the apex?

I can't hit the brakes between the first and second apex. I'll lose all my speed.

I don't have a speedometer in the car but if I was to guess, I'm probably at between 115 and 120 when i get on the brakes.

Do you have plans to run LRP anytime this year?

You can sort of see me in this video. I'm the orange rx-7 in front of the BMW. I come into view at about the 30 second mark. You can see a little bit of how I take big bend and the esses.

edit: actually, it looks like I hug the first part of big bend, which is just the camera angle.

That was with about 3 laps to go. The track started getting slick at that point. Possibly due to an increase in humidity. It started raining just after we got off the track.
