Default [MovieNews] The Rise Of The Deadpool Effect: Let's Make Everything Rated R!

Wolverine 3, Hugh Jackman's "final" turn as the little hairy dude with the Adamantium claws is shooting for an R-rating.

20th Century Fox is claiming that it was intended to be R-rated the whole time, and this isn't a result of the massive success of Deadpool. Right, because all five X-Men so far (and likely the upcoming sixth) and both Wolverine movies have all been PG13 and now you're going balls out with an R-rated Wolverine just because?

Bullshit.

... and in "Really, Why?" news, Batman V Superman will have an R-rated "Ultimate Cut". This has been confirmed, as the MPAA has released the rating information on both the "Theatrical Cut" and the "Ultimate Cut". Now that makes it sound like this "Ultimate Cut" is going to be a DVD/BluRay kinda thing, but I can't for the life of me remember any film getting an MPAA rating for a home video release of a director's cut. They're always "Unrated"...

Weird.

It is as I feared. Hollywood saw "R-rated" and "$XXX,XXX,XXX" for Deadpool and their reaction is "R is the new PG"...

The idea of making a 3rd movie of a trilogy rated R after the first two were notes somewhat annoying. It means that some people who were able to see the first two (within reason) shouldn't see the 3rd.

My daughter's a bit upset. Though the fact that she can't stand X-Men Origins: Wolverine, because of how badly they screwed up Deadpool in that movie, means that she's somewhat wary of the 3rd Wolverine movie.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say Wolverine 3 will not be released as an R-rated movie.

Fox is stupid, there's no getting around that, they've made some of the worst decisions in movie history, especially on superhero films. But I have to believe that when they're confronted with what they're actually doing to the audience for that movie by having it R-rated, they'll swerve at the last minute and put it out as a PG13, with an "Unrated" home video release.

They'd have to be monumentally stupid to lock the teens out of this one.

Exactly my thoughts on this. The bean counters in Hollywood just don't understand that it's not the rating that made Deadpool so successful. It was DEADPOOL...I have been a fan since his first appearance as many others have and when I saw that abomination in Origins I was ready to slap someone.. once that test footage was released I was as giddy as a 5 year old on christmas morning.

There was no formula to it's success, they got the right people in the right roles and did it the way it was supposed to be done...no secret there. Yes the R Rating was an added bonus as in the comic book they edited out the swearing so a PG13 would have worked but the R rating just allowed them to let the character flourish....

Next it will be the Care Bears Rated R!!!

Under 17 can get in with a parent.

Of course, while the Utes can't buy a ticket, they can still just "accidentally" go into the wrong theater...
