Best part of this starting tomorrow - no more alarm clock.
Curiosity.....watt sort of education you have toward that field, especially in electronics??

because it sounds like something I could have dun...maybe......

[/QUOTE]Education - just a 2 year degree in math and computer science. I have no education in electronics. Mainly how to perform measurements. I've used surface plate, dial indicators both analog and digital, rotary sine, joe blocks including angle gage blocks, mics, calipers, air gages, pin gages, thread gages. Pretty much anything mechanical. I'm even certified as a mechanical inspector by ASQC. I received that back in 1987.

The calibration piece started back in 1977 when my manager wanted me to perform some calibrations. At that point and time, I had no idea what calibration was, but I found it fascinated.
When I left that company after 4 years, the next place was an air pollution company doing receiving inspection of incoming parts and chassis. My boss noticed that I also did some calibration, and wanted me to setup a calibration lab which I did.

So pretty much the calibration function followed me at each company I went to. It wasn't until I started at ACS in 1986 that the calibration/metrology function expanded a lot. I started to learn about temperature and environmental metrology. I started to assist engineer's in making measurements using data loggers and other pieces of measurement equipment. I started to perform temperature profiles on all of our ovens, including custom ovens that required testing and evaluation. I also created calibration procedures, and eventually created our DOP for calibration.

Everything changed when I accepted a position of supervisor in 2001, then a few years later group lead where I managed 25 staff including 2 supervisors and an engineer, which also included managing a department budget. When we started to have layoffs, I wanted to get out of the management side, so I became the SME (subject matter expert) for calibration.
