Default Hey DAB...

...I sent my dad some of your cutting board threads and asked if he could build one. He made a few and asked which one I liked the best. I chose this one. He hadn't made anything with end grain pieces before, and that offered him a challenge (which I think he liked.) It's not too crazy, just walnut, oak and maple he had in his scrap pile. Thanks for the inspiration!

Very cool.

I try to avoid having glue lines line up in two directions.

Tell him to keep at it. Only limited by imagination.

I'll be posting one tomorrow for give away. Just a little board. About 6-1/2x11.

FYI: red oak is a poor choice for use in a cutting board, as it's an open grain wood. White oak is a closed grain wood, and that's why it is used for whiskey barrels.

I'd still use it for non-meat items. And keep it sealed and treated with beeswax/mineral oil.

I will pass this along! He normally makes furniture so doing something like this is totally different for him. It is oiled with butcher block oil. Is that okay?

Should be ok for non-meat items.

Cool. I normally use HDPE boards when cutting up meat. Wood for everything else.
