My son's in-laws live in Haymarket VA in a relatively new development. The lots on their street are all 45' wide and served by a back alley, so no garages or driveways in front. All the homes have open front porches so you can walk down the street in the early evening and not make a lot of forward progress, because you'll be talking to your neighbors most of the time. It's one of the nicest neighborhoods that I've ever been in.
