[MovieNews] Got $40M hanging around? Buy The TERMINATOR franchise...
The Terminator franchise is on the auction block today, as current rights holder Halcyon heads into bankruptcy. The purchaser will get rights to "future Terminator films, TV programs and other spin-offs". Insiders are expecting a sale price north of $40M.
Given that Terminator: Salvation basically just broke even, one would think this might be a bit of a rip-off, but all the major studios, several smaller production companies and possibly a few individual ballers are interested. I wonder who will get it... I stopped bidding at $6.25 and a pocket-warmed Orange Starburst... |

Here's the thing...
Studios don't really think of rights purchases as "investments". They want a return on that purchase price, and they want it now. So, whoever buys the rights will undoubtedly put something into development.... could be a movie, or a video game, or another tv series, though I think a tv series is the least likely. |
