Default Arbitrary Covid Procedures?

I belong to a gym that is part of a larger social club. Because I am a fitness member only, the hours I can go are limited, specifically 4-8pm weekdays and 9-2 on Saturday. This works fine for me however. The other day, I get an Email saying that "Due to Covid-19 protocols, they are changing the hours from 4-8pm to 3-7pm."

About a week ago, my son was over and we decided to order a pizza from Domino's. The recording comes on "To keep our customers safe during the pandemic, we will be closing Friday and Saturday nights at 1am, and there will be no dine-in seating."

I wasn't aware that Domino's had dine in seating...thought they were all carry out. But my point is, how do these rules in any way keep people safer? How is shifting hours by one hour or staying open only until 1am in any way stopping the spread of the virus?

Am I crazy or are companies making up arbitrary rules to try and convince people that they're taking action? Seems a big waste of effort to me.

"to keep people safer" is the new "in order to serve you better"....

It's the latest "thing", a crutch to justify making something shittier.

My son, who is a trainer at a large fitness chain, ran into some trouble when a member spotted a pic of him on social media wearing his mask, but NO GOGGLES!! <shudder> The club's requirement is that all trainers must wear both mask & goggles; not exactly sure how goggles will help anyone as my son already had COVID in November.

He discussed it with his supervisor, and the boss agreed that he could keep his goggles on his head during training, but to make sure he had them on for any group pics on the gym's web page.

You have to keep the virus off balance by changing the routine so it won't know exactly when to attack.

Damn covid sits outside bars and restaurants watching the clock. At precisely 10:01, it wooshes under the door and in to the air system and is in a shark like frenzy. It is critical that no one is in the building when this happens. It is unbearable to watch. Covid coming in after hours is like dropping meat in a piranha pool. The only way the workers survive during closing, is to wear impenetrable armor such as a piece of woven paper or a 99 cent store bandanna.

After getting the vaccine I decided to test a few stores by not wearing a mask. No one has said anything to me. If I run into any Karen's, I will simply ask them if they are going to wear a mask the rest of their lives after they have been vaccinated.

My usual restaurants are busy. I went to the restroom at one place without a mask and a guy went running out without washing his hands. He may have just been one of those who never washes. I got a laugh out of it anyway.

I still get a kick out of seeing people wearing a mask all alone in their car.

All the different kings from high up on Mount Olympus made their own rules.

Some like our super asshole Killer Cuomo (NY) had a great time barking orders, but of course they did not apply to him or his people.

Yeah...I get all that. And you know, Covid is serious shit. It's a lot more than the flu, and I'm all for doing things that actually work to prevent the spread. But some of the things these people are coming up with as a solution are just wacky. Plexiglas shields, taking temperatures. What difference does it make how long a restaurant is open? You stand the same chance of catching it. Closing at 1am? How many people would be infected if you closed at 2am?

The world is just.........looney.

it's all theatre.

i've looked for a peer reviewed article on mask wearing, so far, no luck.

just a lot of hand waving and idiots issuing edicts. "well, if one mask is good, two are better"

objection, foundation your honor, the doctor has not proven that one mask does anything.

i only wear one where the signs make me, so i can conduct needed commerce. on the outside i'm wearing one, but inside i'm not.

The company I work for changed our business hours to 7am to 4pm
from 7am to 5pm.
Very rare for us to have customers in our building, we're an industrial construction equipment rental company, and we deliver and pick-up our rental equipment.
Still closing at 4pm, but I'm thinking this will change by spring/summer.
Regardless, the company was deemed a necessary business by the local Health depts, so I see no reason to reduce hours.

When I got kicked out of my old gym, I simply joined a new one. "Fatwood Fitness Center" is open 24/7/365, no mask requirement, no goggles, no temperature measurement, basically no COVID related rules at all. As an added bonus, there is no "head-banger" music played at gigantic volume like my old gym, whatever music the attendees desire is played at normal volume levels. Bottles of water are provided off to the side, don't even ask, if you want one, just take it. Clean towels are provided at no charge. Membership fees vary greatly, but when they are high, it is ALWAYS associated with new equipment intended solely for the enhancement of the workout experience.

The only downsides are: members are required to keep the gym clean, including emptying trash, and vacuuming the carpets occasionally, and the HVAC system still leaves something to be desired, although fans for cooling and space heaters for warming are at the fingertips of all members.

Unfortunately for those who think this sounds good, new memberships are currently unavailable. If interested, let me know, and I can get you on the waiting list, because I know the owner.

Some of the hour changing is due to wanting to cut man hours. As far as domino's closing early or not having dine in... It varies by location id have dine in as they're franchises and it's common for pizza places to close 1am, after 1am business goes to almost nothing and robberies/crank orders go way up.
Way back when worked pizza we hated being open that late as it was nothing but problems 99% of the time.

Stores closing/varying hours is so different everywhere even in the same state. There's no rhyme or reason to it is the biggest complaint I'd say by everyone.

****ing stupid nonsense meant to appease the dumbshits among us. I don’t require masks at my business and am actually enjoying the opportunity to play maverick. Chicks dig my bad boy persona.

My place of business has no hard fast rule, but it is "requested" that we wear a mask when we leave our offices. I don't. I have had a couple co-workers point to their mask as they pass me and I just keep walking, I have told a couple of them I am an anti-masker. The response was "that figures" and I am ok with that.

Masks are stupid and don't provide any real production.

That's why you need to wear 2.

Or 3.

Absolutely! A fine example, the USPS, was slow, now even slower. They're used to moping around, which is normal, so now they have an excuse. It will not get faster, if anything, even slower.

I don’t know if this will change anything but I guess it can’t hurt to pass it on.
