Weird remembrances about my dad
I find myself wearing tee shirts and jeans all the time.
But I never ever in my whole life saw my father in his 74 years wear a tee shirt. Even when gardening or BBQ’ing he wore a button down tucked in shirt. He wore slacks, not jeans and I remember hearing stories about how he had his military uniform custom tailored to fit correctly. When I was a kid it was big deal for helping to switch off the summer suits to winter suits into the cedar clothes cabinet in the garage. Looking at old picture’s men were all dressed in suits and hats. Guess it was different back in the day. |

I heard a 5th grade teacher tell students many times “Look like your somebody, act like somebody, treat others like they are somebody”. Her students and co-workers admired and looked up to her.

I don't know how to tie a tie either....I remember one day telling my father that when he died I would probably not be wearing a tie to his wake as I didn't know how to tie one.
He promptly tied around 8 ties for me.....and I was sporting one at his casket Thanks again Dad ! |

It has been several years since I've worn a tie. Used to wear a suit and tie to work every day, for years.
My dad used to wear a suit and tie to work every day, even on Saturday, although he might ditch the tie for the weekend. He rarely wore jeans, and I don't believe he has ever owned a golf shirt. Always wears dress shirts. Now that he's retired, he probably dresses the same, although he rarely leaves the house now, due to this COVID shit. |

As far as I know, my Dad never wore a pair of jeans in his life.
He also never wore a wedding ring, I don't either. I can't stand anything on my hands, and even hated wearing a watch. Now that I am semi-retired, I haven't worn a watch in over 4 years. |

I remember back in the 60's and 70's when people went out they dressed up. Night clubs and many restaurants had dress codes and they enforced them. I use to go to a country night club back in the 70's and you could not wear jeans in. Even in rock clubs you dressed nice. And people wanted to dress up. Now days people go out looking like bums. When me and my wife go to church I wear a suit and tie. But I see young people in shorts and a tee shirt.

T shirt and jeans most of the time, along with tennis shoes. If going somewhere that "casual dress" I'll switch to a polo style or button down but usually untucked and nice, newer looking jeans. If proper dress then a button down and maybe slacks and very rarely a tie. Hate them.
I have so many times that dictates my choice of shirt. |

My dad work for the phone company for 40 years before retiring where he started as a linesman and finished his career in management. I remember that he had 3 suits that he wore and alternated them during the week. He also wore a hat, one of which I kept after his death in '83. I also remember him working in the garden with khaki colored pants and shirt along with a khaki hat. The shirt was long sleeve and during the hot summers he'd come in soaking wet. I'd ask him, why don't you wear a short sleeve shirt? His response was that the wet shirt kept him cool with the evaporation.
Memories.... |
