And, you can load whatever apps you want on your iPhone. Just jailbreak it and go for it. I believe Android has something similar. I know Apple restricts to keep malicious programs from getting into the App Store. They may cause security holes or cause private info to be more available. At least that was the idea behind the App Store.

But if you want to jailbreak it and load an app from anybody, just realize it may be opening up security holes.
Apple also restricts apps so the companies who make them have to agree to give apple a cut of all sales from the apps on their platform, too

Apple wants 30%, which is why Musk is up in arms over Apple's pricing.

Even the Big Guy doesn't take that much of a percentage

I never knew the actual number until Musk. They should be able to charge some fee due to the work they need to put into verification and validation. 30% seems pretty steep. Now I wonder if the number is negotiable. Does every app pay the same 30%?

Fixed.

Then you'll allow oil companies to do their thing then? Ya, I didn't think so.

I do. Not inventing a phone but I take it into my own hands to stay off big tech radar. That is why I use android phones. They are open source and once I get a new phone I unlock it and root it and install a custom ROM and have no google apps or services on it what so ever. There are many non-google app stores and sites out there. And there are thousands of great DEVs that make it possible to stay off google.

Be careful what you wish for. I would not add any app to my cell phone that hasn’t been fully vetted by the phone’s platform owners. Look at the chaos and extreme frustration that just one seemingly useful utility though rogue app can wreak on your PC! Even Adobe hijacks several behind the scenes processes, and was worse until Microsoft showed them who was in charge and made them modify, and I’m glad they did because the Adobe bloatware was slowing down my system just with extensive their background processes (turning it off in “Start up” provided negligible joy).

Anyway - best of luck to you if it ever changes
