We have had shitty service lately, especially on weekday mornings.

When the weather is nice, the street is deserted on weekday mornings, and gets lousy with kids starting at 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

We put those two observations together and figure that the families around here are likely putting in actual effort in the mornings to keep up with the kids' studies, and the bandwidth is stretched as a result.

It might. I see this stuff works fine with Edge, so it must be a problem with Firefox.

Update:

Fixed.

I used my very extensive computer skillz to diagnose and solve the problem. I'll try and give a brief summary of the repair procedures....

If it's any consolation Bill I have to reboot my router about once a week on average, but twice since Wednesday morning. And I have to reboot Windows about once every two weeks at least. Chrome eats the crap out of resources over time. But my Ubuntu laptop runs like a clock but I just use it for work. I guarantee the router gets fubared by something going on in Windows/Chrome/internet in general.

Your router? Damn what kinda crazy stuff are you making it do? Maybe its time for a new router..firmware?

I added three new L2 switches to my network Just as we all got sent home orders. I started to order a new USG 4 pro fora new router but realized its got fans and didnt want that in the closet with my modems. So still running the house off an older Ubiquiti ER poe 5.

Well, I have about 15 devices sending stuff through it. Not always at the same time, and very fast internet. Sometimes it will go for weeks without needed to be rebooted. And it could be the ISP/cable company sending it something from their side that gets it confused. The firmware is up to date and it is a good Netgear high-end router. I've had worse routers in the past, this one is really pretty good and gives great wireless signal. The cable router also has wifi capability but I don't use it, I like having my own router (although I bought the cable router too, you don't want to pay them monthly for one that's for sure.)

Awhile back, like two years ago, I was having to reboot it like twice/three times a day. It was really getting me pissed off so I started troubleshooting and traced the culprit down to an old Slingbox I had still connected to an ethernet hub in my entertainment center. Unplugged that and wah-la.

I have little doubt that is a contributing factor. But I think it is somewhat offset by folks like me, who have the wife home all day now, so extensive porn watching during normal work hours is "inconvenient" at this time.

Yeah Chrome eats memory. I also have Linux Mint on a spare laptop and it works with zero issues, but the default web browser is FireFox. As for Chrome on my windose machine, I don't use it. I either use FireFox or I use Brave (a browser that is based on Chromium). Works much faster that Chrome and is more secure.

Another potential fix - delete your browser cache files.
