it IS a useless degree, you MAY be using your other college courses in your employment, but there is simply NO use for a art history DEGREE in the real world.....
Interesting observation. Absolutely hilarious, but interesting.

My mistake, I was thinking of this quote:

Motor comes with a 5 year warranty, hull comes with a 10 year warranty.
And misremembered that it had a comparison with another option. Nonetheless, you selected a motor based on your needs.

Joey, you're wrong on this one. If I get a degree in art history, find a job I love, and pay my bills like a responsible adult, who are you to tell me my degree is worthless?
If you get a degree in history and you find a job, then hey it was not worthless.
If you get a degree and then are unable to find a job with that degree then it would be worthless. Would you not agree?

Can you provide a source for this data? I am not questioning you but just want to verify that GM is paying $149,760 to someone on the line.

And before someone asks how I arrived at that figure, multiply 40 hours/week by 52 weeks by $72 hour. Yes, they get 10 (or more) days vacation and 10 (or more) holidays but they still get paid for them so the effect is the same.

40 x 52 = 2,080 which means 2,080 x $72 = $149,760 annually

I guess I use the term with out defining how I use it. A degree is like a tool, in the proper situation it will work properly, like a flat head screw driver to unscrew a screw. If you need a hammer and you only have a screw driver then the screwdriver would be worthless.

Nope. I'm just using a figure that was tossed around in this thread.

It factors in the cost of the pensions and benefits for retired workers extorted out of the Big Three by the unions. These are real costs, and the costs of those pensions (if they don't manage to bankrupt the whole industry) will ultimately benefit the current workers too.
joebuck I agree with you. If you decide to get an Underwater Basket Weaving degree, don't expect 100K/year.

Even though I'm a total liar, I feel the need to chime in.

1. Mr Uncool seems to ignore the fact that RTW doesn't preclude joining a union by choice.

2. The assumption that the only way to make money is to Get a Job, ignores the ability to Make a Job or Earn a Living.

3. I too came from poverty, put myself through college and have never worked for anyone else in my adult life. In fact I've created jobs.

4. I make $200+ an hour plying my trade. What do I need a union for? I compete on merit.

5. I had lunch with President Bush and he said Phil is a tool.

It's amusing that just after the Michigan Legislature and Governor make the state a Right to Work state GM decides to build the Camaro in Michigan stating with the 2016 model year.
