The fact that Kaepernick grew up in a white family himself ? So what perspective does he have ? He went to Nevada university. Not Newark, Chicago, or Watts. Nevada. He is half white. Grew up in a white family.

Not his, yours, and how your perspective colors your reaction to what he started. I think most people didn't get past what he's doing, to completely understand why. Again, show being more important than substance.

He's not doing this because he feels oppressed.

My perspective comes from many years in the US Navy in the 1980's. This was a period of time that we were getting the dregs of society. The "either go into the military or go to jail" kids. I have worked for,with and have had work for me-every color, race, religion and social group. One thing you learn early is everyone is the same on board ship.
Instead of protesting a perceived injustice, maybe he should PROMOTE what he feels makes a success.

Ask the inner city people in Chicago how they feel about police "giving them their space."

so if you are kneeling to a flag and anthem of our country, then what are you saying? what do you believe your standing is in this country?

I don't have the perspective of a battered woman. Do I have to BE a battered woman to understand that it's wrong, or that laws are inadequate, or that getting smacked in face hurts?

If personal perspective is the only qualifier, then how do I feel sorrow for a cancer patient? Outrage for a molested child? I am neither of those so I don't buy that I can't understand the black man's plight.

You know what the black man can't seem to understand? That they are their own worst enemy.
Stop killing, and you won't be assumed a killer.
Stop robbing and you won't be assumed a robber
Stop selling drugs and you won't be assumed a drug dealer
Get a freaking job and you won't be assumed lazy
Get off welfare and you won't be assumed to be living off the .gov teat

It doesn't require ALL, it does require most. THEY have to shift the mood and opinion.

Just like muslims. Start reporting your bretheren's bullshit and you may eventually rise above suspicion.

it's a recurring trick: if you aren't X, then you cannot comment on matters related to X.

have a view on how much money the military should pull from the budget? oh, you aren't a 4 star general, well, you can't have an opinion.

have a view on the value of hard work and self sufficiency? but you have a good paying job and money in the bank, so you can't understand the poor or lazy.

and on it goes, each topic that is worthy of public debate is cut off from free and open debate if you don't meet some arbitrary criteria of those who are losing the debate.

Colin certainly could of sent a letter to his newspapers editor, or went to town square and gave a speech, or took an advertisement in a newspaper, or wrote a book, or put up a web page on the subject.

ALL THESE AVENUES are afforded to him because he did indeed grow up in America. And to protest it's National Anthem is a wish of self implosion.

He is showing his protest to the very thing - the one thing - that he should be prideful of; our nations anthem.

It's the Bill Walton (UCLA) scenario repeating itself. He let a fanatical group convince (brainwash) him into furthering "their" cause.... but at his expense. Back in the day, these groups were called "cowards", and not mercenaries.

Walton overcame this indoctrination, and had a great NBA career.
BTW, he is now sportscasting basketball games, and IMO does a great job at it.
