I Shot My First Reload Today
After finally getting some Winchester 231 powder from New Hampshire, and 115 gr 9mm Reiner projectiles,(bullets), from my neighbor, I loaded my first test batch.
I used 4 -4.1 grains of powder. After some trial & error w/o powder, i got the depths figured out and the dies locked in. Finished lengths were 1.12 - 1.135, as 1.169 is the max. They were a thing of beauty. They looked like store bought bullets when completed. I just went out and shot the first ten. Perfection !! Only 800 to go.... Then on to .38 special... |

My Grandfather always did his own loads. Another thing I'd like to have time to learn some day. No pics of said brass? Scott

Nice. Once you load your own, it'll be hard to pay for store bought
I load all my pistol, rifle and target shotgun. Only buy self defense pistol and turkey hunting ammo now. |

It was a bit stressful at first as I had to feel my way through, but I've got the steps down now and I'm in a groove. I have 100 powdered now, so it's time to inspect them and seat the bullets... |

I got 100 done.
I used CCI Magnum small pistol primers on a few so I'm gonna go try those out right now. I used Remington regular small pistol primers on the rest. My neighbor says it really does not matter, as I'm not using max loads.. I'll let you know. |

No but I definitely had the glasses on...
No problemos!!! I'm more accurate with these than store bought ammo... I'm not that great with my Ruger LC-9 due to the long trigger pull, but I'm doing 8" groups at 21' with many in the heart.... Damn ! I like it ! |

Nothing better than loading you own ammo. I load for everything I own. For me it is relaxing.

You're still shooting the same as always, it's the ammo that's more accurate. Reloading can make you a better shot over time though. That's because when you know you are responsible for the shot placement you can make corrections to improve. When it's the ammo fault you're at the mercy of randomness. The more accurate your ammo is the easier it is to make improvements to your skill.
I did a project in college for a statistics class that evaluated different reloading componants and techniques for a particular rifle. That ended up with a 400% reduction in group size over factory loads. |
