Default Broken YT Ultralight Rocker!!!

Picked up a dead miss and a rattle on the way home last night. Pulled the valve covers this morning and found a broken YT Ultralight rocker. It's the intake rocker. It broke off the PR seat area. I found the steel insert for the pushrod but not the larger piece that broke off. I'll try to get some pics up later. I guess I'll go back to stockers with the COMP trunion upgrade. CRAP!!!

Aye Carumba! Sounds like you just got a bad one seen as how it broke so soon after the install. Hopefully finding that missing piece isn't too big of a project.

I feel your pain, I had a similar failure last year, sort of.

These had about 12-15k on them. I've been running them for a while with no problems.

I'll be there around 8:00 in the morning to tear the head off. We'll find that piece!

"pieces" is probably more accurate. The missing section likely split centered with the pushrod cup.

If it broke in one piece, it would still be there. It would have to be as there is no opening in that cavity of the head large enough to swallow it whole. Only place the pieces could have gone is down the pushrod hole.
From there, the lifters would keep the piece(s) from dropping any further.

A borescope would be a handy tool to have right about now.

Looks like TSP's porting handiwork?

I just spoke with Erik Koenig at HKE. Great guy and gave me some more info. Hopefully based on his experience, the pieces should be up top. Fingers crossed.

Although you didn't post it here, those stock rockers w/ bronze bushings instead of needle bearings look like a very smart choice.

I was just thinking the exact same thing as I was going over, in my head where the pieces could have gone.

Got it all broken down ready for the head to come off. I'm out of time for the day so I'll order up the head gasket and rockers this week and finish the top end look see. Hopefully, all the pieces will be sitting around the lifter bay area.

Does anyone know the average difference in in PR length going from stock to YT rockers and vice versa? I've got a couple of sets but it would be nice is they are close to the same length. I'll measure and check anyways.

I did get my first look at the intake ports on the Stage 3 WCCH heads. They are HUGE. My arm got sucked in up to the elbow...

I'll post pics when the camera is charged.

BTW Tim: No blood so far. Don't know what that's about.

That really sucks.... I had no issues beating on mine, but I had an older set.... I have heard that later batches have had issues.

Oh... if you're working on your car and you're not bleeding then you're not trying hard enough

After talking with several builders, I think it's most likely a fluke.

BTW: Usually when I turn wrenches it's like the final scene from Braveheart.

This from Jim by email to my question of were there any other failures of the offset rockers...

No we haven’t …..Twenty L92 offset arms out of a production of 3000 arms got thru and we caught it in time ….Unfortunately, yours was the one …..

Ive been to the forum…thanks for the comments…and as mentioned the main issue was with the pushrod cup machining on some of these arms.

…Replacement Arms may take a few days due to shipping them out of Melbourne Australia…but will try our best to get them to you earlier

So is he replacing the whole set, and if so, are you going to continue to use them?

More from Jim at YT:

Hi Kevin,

Chances of having another suspect one is slim …..To be on the safe side Im sending you out a complete new set…and if you don’t mind send the rest of the set back to Meridian.

We also stand by the YT products and any US customer who is in doubt can ask any Australian Performance customer about Yella Terra and they will see that we are both reactive and proactive ….

In the meantime I’ll give you an update on the new set

Thanks Kevin
