Default Oxygen at home.....

Wife's mother staying her for several years, now is outta the hospital after a week, and back here.....

Trick is, she is on oxygen for some reason I don't understand, but she is age 86 or so....

so wife is running around trying to set up the house as a nursing home.....

anyone with any experience in this??? seems that tanks of Oxygen are a hazard because of the plumbing alone.....

I KNOW NOTHING of the coming shituation.....

She needs an oxygen concentrator. Bottles would only be helpful as an emergency backup or for traveling.

Surely that was prescribed by the hospital doc. Medicare should pay for most all of the rental charges.

Get an oxygen concentrator rather than tanks.
(Some incorrectly call them oxygen generators)

Connect 25'-30' breathing tube, fill the water canister to moisten output, plug it in and turn it on. Strategically locating the concentrator permits mobility around part of the house.

4+ years ago my mother, 73 at the time who moved in with me a couple years prior and had mobility issues so she used a walker, was put on 24/7 oxygen. The second day she got up during the night to go to the bathroom and forgot to take off the oxygen. As she walked to the bathroom the oxygen tube caught on something and pulled her back enough to cause her to lose her balance and fall. This resulted in a badly broken ankle which ultimately led to her being in a nursing home ever since that day.

So, make sure she isn't at increased risk for falling due to the oxygen tube.

supposedly the canisters are for when she travels and this noisemaker is for here in the house.....

We find patients all the time with over 25 feet of oxygen tubing and their generators set at 2 liters per minute. They are not getting anything out of the cannula at that setting. Don't let the tubing exceed 25 feet. The generator is the best way to go with the bottles as a backup.
