We are one event into this year's robotics season, and our Regional organization just canceled the rest of the season for the entire region. There are going to be some very unhappy people about this.

After seeing what is happening in Italy with the lack of sufficient resources to handle the huge spike in cases, epidemiologists have come up with a strategy to "flatten the curve". This approach basically is designed to keep people away from each other in an attempt to slow transmission. In essence, the same number of people will likely be infected, but it will be over a longer period of time. This, hopefully, ensures resources are available as people end up needing them.

Travel bans, cancellation of large events and closing of schools are all focused on flattening the curve.

What I heard this morning is that the cargo can come in, but the crews accompanying the cargo have to stay on board.

That is what Gov Wolf (D) just announced for Montgomery County PA ( next county west from Philadelphia ). I live at top, NE corner

There are 22 cases in PA and Montg Co has 13 of them. All schools are closed for two weeks along with Nursing homes ( no visitors), theaters and large gatherings.

Gas stations and super markets will be open.

My wife and I both work in Bucks Co, she at the local hospital and I at a machine shop down the road. Since we have a few Govt contracts, I'm pretty sure we'll stay open.

Ok, everybody sing along

I was actually in the Port of Houston yesterday. The gate guard said there were fewer ships coming in, and just driving through a little bit, I noticed less activity. Not good.

Maybe the ripple effect of China shutting down factories for awhile? I read activity is also down at west coast ports.

This is really interesting, in that the argument for closing schools even though the kids may be vectors, might be counterproductive. Other stuff pretty interesting too.
