Wow!

I toured a liquor distribution facility recently….they had a locked cage in the warehouse. One bottle was $70k can’t remember if that was retail or wholesale but does it really matter at that point?

Paying $70K for a bottle needs a plan, as probably a collector.
If not a collector it would have to be for a very special family, or business, event.

I have never seen 5-digit liquor bottles in any store, seen them advertised in store with a price tag, but pretty certain the actual bottle is under lock and key in the back.

Here is one pricey bottle, at TW in Boca Raton, not far from my house, I may go up there this weekend, will see if actually on the floor, which I doubt:

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
750ml
$64,999.99

Here is the auction record, sold in NOV 2023:

Quote:
A new record has been set in the alcohol market, with a bottle of the world’s “most sought-after” scotch whisky sold for around $2.7 million at an auction in London.

The bottle sold at Sotheby’s in London, a Macallan Adami 1926, now stands as the most expensive bottle of liquor ever purchased during an auction. A bidding war over the bottle ensued shortly after bidding began, with one competitive bidder joining virtually and the winner attending the event in person.

That bottle they had was in a large wooden case with brass hinges on it. Had another wooden case inside with the bottle. It was an irish Macallan if i recall.

Irish Whiskeys can get top dollar, this one hit $2.8M.
Although you will usually almost always see Scotch at the top of the auction price range, usually almost always a Macallan.

Irish whiskey with $2.8 million price tag purchased by whiskey collect

Whiskey lovers who drop $100 or more for a bottle got off easy. The latest record-breaking bid for a coveted super-premium spirit: $2.8 million for a bottle of rare Irish whiskey.

The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. says it has sold a bottle of The Emerald Isle triple-distilled Irish single malt whiskey for $2.8 million to American whiskey collector Mike Daley. That surpasses the price tag on the previous recordholder, a bottle of The Macallan 1926, which went for $2.7 million at an auction held by Sotheby's in November 2023.

Daley, who has a collection of several thousand bottles of Irish and American whiskies, and Scotch whiskeys, sees Irish whiskey on the rise. "Irish is the future of whiskey. I'm excited to be part of it, as a collector, but most importantly as a drinker," he said in a statement in a press release about the sale.

I've got common cents, and it's all contained in my old coffin bank. Well, a quarter of it, anyway...

P.S. You know you had one as a kid, admit it.

My revised powerball due to rollover, Saturday is drawing.

Here the FL winner math--net proceeds are less if state has income tax:
$1.230B estimated prize today
$1.5B should be the increased jackpot for Saturday drawing
$728M cash prize, based on 48.50% of jackpot amount
***AGAIN, FLORIDA amount, no state income taxes
37% stolen by irs
$459M net cash proceeds after irs theft
***I believe you are given 75% of your cash prize, you get square on tax filing

We will work with the $459M net after irs theft
You build a 20,000 sqft home, 100-car garage on 10-acres
Figure 40,000 total square feet at $750 sqft, so $30M
Land will vary, figure $2M max for land
Furnishings and garage equip will be another $5M
Figure about $5M for bowling alley, Scottish-replica bar, huge pool, living quarters in garage to hide from wifey
So total ALL IN on home is $42M, call it $45M as you will need upgrades

So, you spend $45M on house and your 100-car garage
Leave you with $414M

If you want a yacht, figure $20M for a newer 150-foot
DO NOT BUY A JET, go fractional, will cost under $2M for 1/16 share of a $30M eight-seater
You still pay by the hour for flight time, but hey, why hang out in airports and airport parking lots

So, after house w/ killer garage, 150-footer and fractional jet, you still have $392M
Wifey will buy wardrobe, jewelry, purses, shoes, etc,,, so figure $3M here.

You are down to $389M
Figure net 8% return after taxes, you live on $2.6M/month without touching $389M

Here is what I would do.
I would not spend a penny, I can manage what little current debt I have.
Take all of $459M, know a dood, hedge fund owner, maybe family
He takes all $459M, gets me 18% annually net after fees and taxes--his average is better than this in last 20+
That grows compoundly and doubles every four years
So, year 4 I now have $918M
By year 8 I am at $1.836B
Year 12 at $3.672B
Year 16 at $7.348B

I will get out of the game at year 16, I will now have enough to buy every Arby's franchise, change name to OBC's place and invite all my VB buddies, of which I currently have none, to dine with me in any city in America.

Holy Hell, I can't unsee that video now! It was going along pretty good and the main guy resembled Jerry Lee Lewis away from the piano onstage, but then the guy with the flipped kilt gave me no warning-couldn't avert my eyes in time. Yikes!

The estimate for last night was $1.0 billion. The increase to $1.2 billion included the lottery's best guess of how many tickets will be sold for Saturday. It could go higher, if the public gets in a frenzy over it, but $1.5 billion is pretty unlikely.

Cash value on the $1.2 billion is $595 million. Federal tax on that will be about $220 million, so you'll net out about $375 million if you don't pay state tax.
