I toured a liquor distribution facility recently….they had a locked cage in the warehouse. One bottle was $70k can’t remember if that was retail or wholesale but does it really matter at that point?

Paying $70K for a bottle needs a plan, as probably a collector.
If not a collector it would have to be for a very special family, or business, event.

I have never seen 5-digit liquor bottles in any store, seen them advertised in store with a price tag, but pretty certain the actual bottle is under lock and key in the back.

Here is one pricey bottle, at TW in Boca Raton, not far from my house, I may go up there this weekend, will see if actually on the floor, which I doubt:

The bottle sold at Sotheby’s in London, a Macallan Adami 1926, now stands as the most expensive bottle of liquor ever purchased during an auction. A bidding war over the bottle ensued shortly after bidding began, with one competitive bidder joining virtually and the winner attending the event in person.

That bottle they had was in a large wooden case with brass hinges on it. Had another wooden case inside with the bottle. It was an irish Macallan if i recall.

Although you will usually almost always see Scotch at the top of the auction price range, usually almost always a Macallan.

The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. says it has sold a bottle of The Emerald Isle triple-distilled Irish single malt whiskey for $2.8 million to American whiskey collector Mike Daley. That surpasses the price tag on the previous recordholder, a bottle of The Macallan 1926, which went for $2.7 million at an auction held by Sotheby's in November 2023.

Daley, who has a collection of several thousand bottles of Irish and American whiskies, and Scotch whiskeys, sees Irish whiskey on the rise. "Irish is the future of whiskey. I'm excited to be part of it, as a collector, but most importantly as a drinker," he said in a statement in a press release about the sale.
