It wasn't mandated, and I can tell you for a fact that Buffalo had one of the lowest vaccination rates in the league.
His fellow safety was one of the most outspoken players against the vaccine all along.

Cannot assume it was related to that.

Hard chest hits can cause the heart to stop beating.

CPR would have been only way to help as AED (shock) only of benefit if heart beating too fast like with V fib or V tach.

So young, hope that falls in his favor for recovery.

Thought possibly he had a severed aorta or thoracic/pulmonary vessel, if severe, that is not survivable. Would have blood supply for only seconds then collapse like he did.

Didn’t appear hit affected his cervical spine but he did adjust his helmet, if spinal cord severed that could also explain his drop after standing.

That contradicts what every other source is saying. ESPN reporter at the hospital just said he has a heartbeat but can’t breathe on his own. He’s been intubated and is in critical condition.

I was thinking of Drew Bledsoes injury years ago.

Piecing some things together... maybe incorrectly... but it sounds like the NFL said "play on" and the players said "nope"... If true I might even watch some NFL games. Been out of them for a good while.

I have actually seen a similar occurrence as a teenager. Youth hockey player took a slapper in the chest and crumbled. They did CPR for about 5 minutes and he was out the door, as we always had an ambulance on site for tournaments. No AED's in that era, but they were able to restart his heart with paddles at the hospital. Interestingly, due to the quick response, he was back on his feet in a week, and back on the ice in a month.

The condition has a name, Commotio Cardis. Hoping that this is the issue, as it's usually survivable.

They appeared to absolutely put their foot down and say no way we are playing, both teams held a united front against the NFL

just like when you fall/land funny and deflate both lungs.... there's a situation where one can squish all/most of the blood out of your heart, and it's difficult for it to restart and maintain proper blood pressure.

I looked at that tackle numerous times though, didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Seriously doubt that.
Not sure how this is a preferable story in any way.

I still think it was a blow to the chest at the right millisecond.
There's a chance it is vaccine related.
Unlikely that it was a preexisting condition, they are scanned and go through very detailed medical checks before the season starts.

In early 2020 a Bills player was diagnosed with myocarditis after having Covid (not the vaccine)
Heart conditions are being watched.
