If you go through Dothan to Montgomery, here is the best way around Montgomery:

take 231 north through Troy. As you near Montgomery, you will see a cattle auction barn and pasture land on your left and a little further you will see an auto auction on your left. You are coming up to Taylor Road soon at the Marathon Gas station. Take a right on Taylor Road and proceed north approximately 5 or so miles. YOu will come up to a shopping area with a shopping center on your right. There are three lanes there and the right one is a turn lane which you should stay out of. Stay in Middle lane and you will approach I 85. Be in the right lane over the bridge and bear right and swing onto I 85, go a few miles and take that to I65 North to Birmingham.

Good route. Google that area of Montgomery to see what it looks like. That way you will know what to do before you get there.

Just reverse it when you are going to Florida.
