Intermittant Active Handaling
The last few weeks Candy has been getting a little goofy on me, I'll be going down the road and the active handeling light pops on and stays on. Being a thrifty person I'd reather not have to take it into the stealership to find out how to fix it permanatly. Any help would be appreciated.

What is the code popping in the DIC? But I would hunt thru and clean all of the engine bay grounds.

What year is your car? I vaguely recall something about wire chaffing in the steering column possibly being related to the steering angle sensor etc..some kind of TSB maybe.

It's an 06, and how would i pull the codes, I've done it on my old car but didn't think I'd be doing it on this one so soon?

Check your PM. For the shake for everyone else, here is what has fixed my problem:
Check it out first to see if your vehicle falls under the current GM recall pertaining to this problem. The GM recall did not fix my problem. Anyway, without going into the long story, I got the “service active handling,” “service active brakes,” “serving traction control” reading on the DIC. After some conversation with some folks, I finally to it to the dealership. You have to go when the codes are showing. The level II tech identified my codes, U2100, U2105, U2107, U2108, all comm codes. Giving these readings, I never had a problem with the operations of the vehicle and felt safe to drive, so drove off. He called the GM Techs to how best to fix this problem. They told him do troubleshoot, see below, of course, it was to cost me $300.00 dollars. I did not do that so since this was a re-ocurring problem from under the 30 day guarantee from CarMax, I took to them with the fix given to me by the dealership level II tech. So far, now going on 3 months, the following fix seems to be holding: Codes: U2100, U2105, U2107, U2108, all comm codes Fix: Ck electrical inputs to ECM-BCM-EBCM Input connector C180 Ck for any open & shut electrical Drag test terminal-ECM-BCM-EBCM Ck 2500 & 2501 from BCM-EBCm EBCM-ECM Ck complete wiring harness Ck modules before disconnecting (disconnecting what, I am not sure) Hope this helps in your repairs. If you want, print these codes and fix, do so and it to the stealership and have them fix the problem. NOTE....What I have learn, you must, must take it to a dealership at the moment the SHA/STC/SES lights displayed, that is, if the service dept is open. If so, DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR CAR until the codes are identified. For when you turn off your car, it reset the codes and it could be days or weeks before they kick on again. Ask the tech II what codes were activating and write them down. Do your own research and the ask someone you know who can answer your questions as to what the codes are the fix could be. |

There is a TSB on this issue. There is a problem in cars with the telescoping steering wheel where the movement of the column can tug on the connector and cause a momentary spike that can send a strange signal to the steering wheel position sensor.
If it is an isolated incident just watch it. If it happens more than once, take it in for service. If it has happened before, or if it happens again, I would consider a trip to the dealership and have the TSB performed to R&R the connector as indicated. Of course this is if your car has the telescoping steering column. Not to be an alarmist but the repeated tugging on the connector can contribute to a condition called fretting of the connector pins. If this happens they can start a carbon buildup on the surface caused by the repeated arcing. If this buildup becomes enough to change the resistance of the connector it can lead to false readings to the steering wheel position sensor. Any false interpretation of the SWPS can lead to some diabolical behavior of the active handling system and cause the car to take proactive measures to right a perceived wrong. You really don't want this happening at the wrong time. Other contributors can be an abs sensor or wheel speed sensor failing which can also cause the error message to appear. The last issue that I've also seen contribute was having one tire inflation pressure very high while having the other at or near the low end. This can cause measurement issues from the wheel speed sensor. The repair, even not under warranty is a 30 minute exercise and it cost me $41 dollars parts and labor. They need to remove the lower panel under your steering wheel, open the connector, add a small wire jam to lock the terminals in place, reconnect the harness and tape it back up again. Our 06 was doing the same thing. Light would come on from time to time. We took it back to the dealer in June and they replaced the steering wheel position sensor.

I know this is an old thread, but if you have not had your C6 in to have the Active Handling recall done, don't put it off.
Even though I had the recall done 2 years ago, my car started throwing this message these past few weeks. I ignored them and then - Bang - one day last week the system intervened while I was driving. Lucky i was going slow, because the car's computer was applying the brakes and not allow the throttle to respond. Would not have wanted this to happen at speed. I did some research when i got home and discovered GM has come up with a better fix to this issue since the recall was first issued a few years ago. They have created a new part which is a comb-shaped insert which is inserted into the connector for the steering wheel position sensor. Cost me about $2 and a half hour to install. My car seems to be fine now... |
