Default Has anyone here been into herpetology?

Any herpers here, I'm talking about reptiles and amphibians, not chasing skanks at the local watering hole.

I caught many different species of snakes, frogs, toads, salamanders, newts & efts, and turtles when I was younger here mostly in Michigan. I've seen a few lizards (skinks) but they're almost impossible to catch.

Nothing like flipping plywood, logs and metal pieces to see what turns up.

My bro had a burmese about 25 years ago, cool pet, not much maintenance, ate every other week, eating was cool to watch.
Got to 6-feet, he did not want to keep, a family friend took it.

I would stay away from snakes, they get too big too fast, and their diet progresses to live rabbits, and larger.

Knew a dood in high school, his family had a turtle/tortoise?? that was with them for 30+ years, ideal pet for almost no maintenance and longetivity.
ICNO, as no exchange of affection.

No, Wayne County. What is the trick, using a fishing pole with a snare on the line?

I do not like snakes. We have two large black snakes living in and around our main barn. I won't hurt them, but I go out of my way to avoid them. Nothing like walking around a corner and seeing 6 foot long "George" in the path. Yes, we named them.

I carry a .45 when I mow fields and will bust any copperheads that I flush. Here's a copperhead that was on the cart path between the eighth and ninth holes at my golf club.

It looks like something is wrong with its head.

I had a Basilisk(looks like a dragon) we used to run up and down the hall so we could see him get up on two legs.
Had a 3 foot Iguana until mom found him on her bed.
How would you scare them?

Staying at a hotel in San Juan this weekend. This guy walked by while hanging out at the pool today. He was at least two feet long, kinda startled me lol.

I retired after working at the DOJ in Wash DC in 2001, I saw all the snakes I ever wanted to see, most wore business suits and a smarmy smile.

I did a lot of rock flipping and snake catching when I was little. I kept the snakes I caught (mostly garter snakes) in my sock drawer, at least until my mom found them. She was putting some clothes away and one of the shoelaces moved. I wound up getting pulled out of school and my dad came home from work. They did not share my reptile fancy. I had to keep them in an aquarium after that.

Mine got behind the fridge one time and liked the heat back there. Had to "smoke" her out with gasoline fumes. When she came out, she was hauling ass like a Tesla Plaid.
