“According to union documents, ‘representational activities’ (money spent on bargaining contracts for members) made up only 11 percent of total spending for the union. Meanwhile, spending on ‘general overhead’ (union administration and employee benefits) comprised of 61 percent of the total spending.”

I think this whole anti RTW laws is a funny stance, shituation....that flys in the face of the obvious....

just look at how Detroit looks today, remember the comparisons with Japan's cities ?? from 60+ years ago,

When I went to a manufacturing plant in Detroit central city back in the early 80's I was totally UNimpressed by that city......garbage everywhere....now the garbage includes most of the buildings, never seen such lack of control/care ......

I bet most of the southern RTW states don't have THAT kind of decay......

Another laughing matter.....it costs twice as much to live in Michigan as most any southern state.....TAXES MAN, so you make twice as much, so what?? all taken back in cost of living, and TAXES.....not to mention the weather.....

The problem isn't private unions. It's the public unions, where public union reps negotiate with politicians, promising a quid pro quo for the old "You scratch our backs, and we'll scratch yours." All with taxpayer money, yet the taxpayer has no say at the negotiation table. That's completely wrong, and it's why every pro-public union initiative that was on the ballot in Michigan last November got shot down big time. The people have had enough of this game, and it's just beginning. Doubt me? Just watch.

How's Michigan doing with getting those auto jobs?
BMW factory workers in South Carolina make about half what BMW factory workers in Germany make.

That is because the workers at BMW in Germany belong to a union.

Uh, NO, i'ts because of currency manipulations, exchange rates, shipping and cost of living......

it's the COST OF LIVING that counts, not what you make.....WTF good is 200 grand a year when 1/2 is taken in taxes, a house costs 300 grand, and you need a couple of 30k cars to commute, and HVAC runs 400/month.....

and your spouse has to pitch in to scratch that other grand/month for food and gasoline......

Clearly we need to redistribute some of that kraut wealth to the poor southern states.

Assuming for a minute what you state here is a fact, which I am not going to verify for you, that is far from the whole picture.

And as per various observations, they have the living bejeezus taxed out of them, in part to support the indulgences of Greece, Italy, and developing issues in Spain.

So manufacturing costs were too high in Germany, and they outsourced. This produced jobs in the USA. And this is bad how?

And for the record, there isn't a damn thing stopping the SC BMW employees from organizing if they thought the unionization would actually benefit them. Same is true in all other RTW states.

Guess they're not buying the union bullshit anymore.

Source of workers wages? So break the numbers down. I can't comment if you can't show how the money is being distributed. (sound familiar?) Let's see the breakdown of net and gross pay for BMW workers in SC vs. Germany.

Assuming for a minute that you aren't just pulling unsubstantiated shit straight out of your ass like you usually do, are you actually simple minded enough to make a statement that the sole reason is that they are unionized? Yep... none of the other infinite variables spanning 2 completely different economic systems on multiple continents have anything at all to do with the wages of workers. Screw all of that complex economics bullshit. You have it all figured out in 1 sentence.

what is funny is that I took a macro economics final yesterday at 1 and on said final one of the questions were
Quote:
Which of the following is correct?
a. In unionized industries wages are above the level that would prevail in competitive markets.
b. The introduction of a union in some industry reduces the quantity of labor demanded in
that industry, causes some workers in that industry to be unemployed, and reduces wages
in the rest of the economy.
c. Critics argue that the allocation of labor resulting from unions is both inefficient and
inequitable.
d. All of the above are correct

the answer is D.

So by looking at this economically we can argue that unions cause more harm than they do good.

Business & Technology | BMW finds skilled workers for less at S.C. plant | Seattle Times Newspaper

The upside is you have a job, the downside is you fall out of the middle class.

And keep in mind that the ONLY reason the plants are not unionized is because they pay the workers more than they otherwise would to keep the union out. If the union disappeared tomorrow, only a fool wouldn't believe the wages at these plants wouldn't drop.

Race to the bottom!
