Hard to explain, but the Olympics isn't where you depend on extra fancy/ hard actions to win. Its not looked at as rewards, its looked at as probably increasing failure to medal. She was warned for her own benefit (and the Team's, its not about her, its about The Team overall), as unknown/ unrecognized things don't get judged equally for a reason: Judges haven't analyzed/ understood and assigned a level of difficulty to the new things. She was told to avoid them because everybody knows it would lower her score, just like the woman in ice skating a few years back who insisted on including a flip in her event after being warned to not do so (skating didn't want a trend that could cause bad injury to start). The media is making it sound like some sort of discrimination, when its a part of how any sport scored by the subjective judging of humans is handled.

In Fencing we teach the phrase "Fence for the Director", because no matter how fancy your bit is, if the Director doesn't see/ understand it- you lose.

NBC is losing hundreds of millions on this fiasco. Go woke, Go Broke.

And to think, they dumped over $1B into this shit show to have exclusive broadcast rights.

NBC has had a lock on the rights to Olympic coverage for decades. I have hated them ever since the '96 games, when they tried to force photographers, parents and video recordings for team use out because they owned rights to all sports. Imagine your kid going to the Olympics and you can't take pictures of them except from way off in the stands!

At that time, they held the rights to ALL the sports and decided what got shown. They wouldn't give anybody info on how much they would sell rights for a sport for, until after the event and they said they would sell groups of four sports for $9,000.00 worldwide. Of course by then the events were over and other than study for the next competition they were useless.

Xander Schauffele is 1/2 Asian because his mom is from Taiwan, but again he doesn't claim he's Asian and TV networks don't call him an Asian golfer.

Apparently if you're 1/4 black, you're completely black but if you're 1/2 Asian you're not Asian. Weird...
So you are saying that Collin's father is white? Or some other race? Got a link to support that?

I've seen pictures of the Morikawa family, and both Mom and Dad look pretty Asian to me. Also, everything I read says he comes from a "Japanese-Chinese" family.

Maybe Collin just wants to be an American, without any kind of asterisk or hyphenation about ethnicity?

Kind of, like my wife?

People only want to be a specific race when wanting attention or something given to them. True Americans regardless of race or creed identify as Americans whose familes came from somehwere else(like 99% of us did).
Are we supposed to treat those who identify as something non American special or something? If so i missed that fukin memo.

Tried? Its the way they still operate. NBC pay the IOC for ALL rights to the Games. They use only their employees to cover the event, or subcontractors. They decide what and how much gets aired. Internationally they do the same thing, because they own the world wide rights. If you see someplace providing full coverage of an individual sport, they paid to do so. In addition, they create "Packages" of sports they consider no value and sell them. I think Fencing. Shooting and Archery were bundled in 1996. They force the price higher saying, "But you get THREE sports!" when you only care about one.

In 1996 they decided to not film ANY Fencing, saying they didn't have enough cameras to do so. But it was literally in the same building as Gymnastics at the other end of the room. Which, of course, had more cameras than any other event to cover it.

I think most of the new BS sports that have been added got there with backing from NBC. If it looks like people might watch it, they sell more advertising. Like everything else, the Media has ruined the Olympics.

I had some free time so I grabbed a beer and turned on the olympics to see what's happening. After seeing a couple events, here comes the commentary about some athletes kneeling. Click.
