Default Conflicting cash for clunkers info ?

I know this is an old topic but I found something interesting....

I was searching the internet for final info about how many Corvettes were destroyed in the Cash for Clunkers program. Between the internet search and searching on different forums through old threads I found different totals. Does anyone know what the correct info is? 243? 131? 123? Corvettes destroyed????

An internet result said 243 Corvettes were destroyed, and that site provided a chart.
Model Year # of Clunkers Low Value
1984 12 $6,000
1985 91 $6,000
1986 66 $4,250
1987 63 $5,100
1988 6 $8,500
1989 5 $8,000
---------------------------------------------------

Autoweek reported that 131 '84 to '95 vettes were turned in for cash for clunkers.

-----------------------------------------------------
Car and Driver reports that among the cars traded in on the "Cash for Clunkers" program, 123 were Corvettes from 1984 to 1995.

Clearly the majority of them were the older 80's ones that were probably push-pull-drag-or-tow vettes with blown head gaskets and slipping transmissions etc.

I know a few gems went to the program, and even then, I think a few people at the dealerships scooped them up if they were worth $3500, but does it matter if it was 100 cars or 200? Statistically small amount and most of those cars were a half a notch above junkyard parts cars anyhow.

It was one thing when people coveted pre emissions era big blocks and high compression, but since about 1990, vettes (and pretty much most cars) keep getting better and better so I don't worry about it too much. The future classics are at the dealership right now.

I'm not sure what you guys are arguing about, the 1993 is clearly the best year ever.

Sad but true....But I hear we will be switching over to Yuan (this means Chinese money) within the next year or 2........WW

Have faith Wayne. America has a very serious debt to pay off and I mean serious. Your GDP = your debt as we speak with 50% or more owing to the Chinese. I'm afraid the guy you have running the joint hasn't got a clue. There's going to be some hard times ahead for my American cousins, but it is imperative, to both our countries, that you guys get this under control

I don't think we have anyone running for office in the upcoming elections with enough brains to straighen this mess out..Our dept should have never gotten to the point its at without someone stepping in and taking control of the situation...The elected officals we have now are a joke, all they want to do is make the other side look bad instead of trying to fix things. I say fire them all and start over again, that should get their attention... Were screwed to say the least......What really pisses me off is my kids are going to be the ones that have to deal with this mess....WW

This is pretty much true in every first world country at the moment. Governments spend like drunken sailors and have grown far too big for any one man to handle. Fire them all would be nice, impossible but nice. Can you spell ANARCHY
