Exclamation need some help

I'm looking to make a couple of changes to my C5Z and I need some ideas. first I'm looking to make an intake change, anybody have any input on what ones are best for street use. Also the car suffers from wheel hop at launch and 1-2nd shift. I hear the HPI system works well, anybody have any experience with it? Will a good set of shocks help? Car has 16K miles and has some mods, headers Veraram and a mail order tune. I would really appreciate some pointers please.

I run a MSD intake and it has been a good intake for my 2000.
I also have two diff/tranny braces on my car and no wheel hop.
My car is blown.
Good luck

I better add, that if you have power, new shocks will not control wheel
hop.

Yes something like HPI I have a brace from different manufactuers ,top and bottom.
Throttle body 102.
Remember you start fooling with the throttle body (different sizes)
and you will need a tune.

That's a given about the tune, I'm not shy about that. I not planning to go as far as you with a blower.I bought the car from a consigner of hi end cars and I know you can not believe a used car salesman under no condition LOL. He said the car was worked on and reached 476hp on a dyno and turned 11.47 @ 118mph in a quarter mile. We spent a lot of time chasing down the previous owner he says the heads were worked on by a well known shop while it was at Carlisle in 2003. The heads were shaved to proper CC's plus new springs, keepers & retainers and a 3 angle valve job(?) what ever that is. I contacted the shop and they verified all. All told they did a nice job. A 3.73:1 rears was installed. So what I'm getting at is will a different intake help me, is it worth the outlay?
?

Hot Rod Mag tested a bunch of intakes a few years ago. It is hard to believe
but the MSD intake made over 30 hp (engine on stand). I did a dyno
and it did make that much hp. So yes , you can pick up a lot of hp
with the right intake and throttle body. ( there are other intakes that can
make good hp ie Fast).

Default hey Road Pilot

I took your advice and got a HPI knock off (for $80 I might add) and it made a HUGE diff to my wheel hop. I know I'm not in your class with hp but 476 at the wheels is nothing to sneeze at. But at least I can put this hopping behind me lmfao.

476 rwhp is nothing to feel bad about that means you are getting close
to 600 hp. There are few cars on the road in your class.
Manageing wheel hop is a big deal. Master it and you have less parts to break.
And the more important plus, you can go faster.
I am glad I could help, anytime.

bilmem intake

I'm getting ready to change the intake to a MS Airforce but I have a few questions if anyone can help. Is there anything else I need ie fuel rails, cross over for them and i hear there's a problem with the water pump causing interference with intake. Please I would appreciate any input about this swap.

I bought one and installed when they first came out and that was years
ago. I did not have to much trouble with install. The intake is a tight
fit under the cowl but it will fit. No trouble with the water pump. The
injectors need to lay flat on the intake ,check to make sure they seat
properly. And the gaskets need to be flat, dont warp them with the install.
What size throttle body are you useing?
A cheap way to get good power. I have never been sorry on the purchase.
Good luck

For now I'm sticking with the stock throttle body, any thoughts on that? Also how about the steam tubes, any trouble with them OR the fuel rails?

I run Holley rails with no problems. You will need a kit to run a stock TB.
They are available. My opinion ,if you run a better intake you are just
strangling the engine for air useing a stock TB. More air to the engine
is best.

What size do you recommend? It's a stock cam but the heads were cc'ed (shaved down) and springs, keepers, and retainers. AR long tubes, Vararam. 3.73:1 rear.

I am not sure of your exact size TB. LS1 run a 78mm TB I would
think a LS2 TB would work the best for a stock cam. A LS2 TB (silver)
90 mm would be a improvenet. You will need the harness etc. It would be best to talk to a vender that sells aftermarket TB's. so you get everything you need.
The silver TB was made in 2005 only. TB can be as high as 102's mm
but you dont have enough engine to support it. You do know that changeing intake and TB ,you will need a tune.
I hope this info helps. Do a lot of research before you pull the trigger.

It comes with a 68mm TB, I like the 90mm range. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. So far the biggest obstacle is I have to get a LS2 water pump OR grind down the portion of it that blocks the intake. I'll probably get the Holley fuel rails (they look good). What would you pick for injector size?
Oh, how's the weather down there, I see you got hit pretty bad.

I'm really starting to realize how much work this manifold will be. I need your option of say Fast manifolds, how do they match up?

I run 80 injec. No problems here in Oviedo. The storm blew by fast with
some wind. The Fast manifold is a good manifold.
I think you need to realize what hot rodding a car means.
It means nothing fits with aftermarket parts. If you are not interested
in cutting, grinding, shaving, and fabricateing what no one has made,
this may not work for you. We all do do it and that is why our cars are
custom. It is not factory take one part off and install another part without
any problems. You better have patience , skill, vision, and grit.
Hot rodding is more than applying a decal, it is not for everyone.
Think about it and I have not even talked about the time and expense
involved.

Cool

HAHAHA, you are so right. it's been such a long time since I hot rodded a car but just so you know a little history I'm no virgin when it comes to that. I started when I was 18, like 55 years ago when I was part of a team. we won stock eliminator at the 68 Spring Nationals, I mostly drove one of our cars. I learned so much but marriage, kids etc side tracked me, but nowadays mods are a lot harder than back then. I don't mind grinding or cutting to achieve a goal, I just have to get over the hump of this (sort of) cherry C5 that was in storage for 18 years till I got it.
I've sort of come to trust your way of putting things, I know that's not usually said on an open forum like this so take it for a good thing. Just keep giving me hints and I'll muddle along, we have decided on #45 injectors, let me know. Just remember I was red lighting before you probably started your first car (I may be wrong LOL). I've met Ronnie soxs and Bill Grumpy Jenkins. We shared ice on a staging lane a couple of times LOL.
