I'd get together with my team for a holiday party I'd pay for. Going to the corporations party had too many stuck up assholes trying to one up each other along with their cronies.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I've been to plenty of company Christmas parties like that. These hospital parties are different, though. They've scaled them down a little in recent years and that's made them better. No more live bands that weren't very good anyway and you can't have everyone be happy with one band. They had a DJ instead and it was really just background music.

The awards ceremony was especially good last night because I really liked every one who won. The COO gave a really nice speech about my stepdaughter who won an award for her leadership abilities. I don't get much time to talk to her about her work and I was amazed at some of the things she has accomplished.

I was also very pleased that they went out of their way to recognize some of the non medical employees at the hospital. The department of the year was plant maintenance and dietary (cafeteria). When you've had power outages and evacuations for fires, these people really had to step up their game and they did.

Also my personal doctor won physician of the year and that was well deserved.

Of course those boats were fantastic and I enjoyed getting a close up view of them. Some million dollar boats there for sure.

I spent most of my career working for small family owned shops, so the Christmas party was usually about ten people going out to lunch somewhere. One time the owner thought it would be cool to have a couple of limos take us to the restaurant. It was only about a ten minute ride, but we managed to drain all the stocked liquor bottles in the limo, so that was fun. Next year, no limos.

back then i was single, so going to a party to see the same 12 people i work with all week, plus their spouses, just wasn't my idea of fun. yeah, free dinner, but 30 min drive each way to the hotel they chose, hour of small talk, dinner, more talking by the owner, and then back home. dinner at home only took me 45 minutes, and that included clean up time. and i didn't have to get all dressed up for home either. ugh.
