Truth is, I'm already killing it! I spent the last 4+ weeks doing range of motion stuff with dumbbells and stretching on my shoulder as prep to try to control some free weights without killing myself. Thursday I sat in the military press thingy, and held the bar over my head for a while a few times. I cracked myself up at how much I wiggled and wobbled with it each time. I did lower it down to about my ears and push it back up, so I can MP 45 pounds if you aren't picky about how low it goes.

I can't wait for Monday's "workout"! I'm planning on doing the same thing on a bench!

Mrs Flex threw up 80 lbs on Thursday for a couple reps. Quite proud of her.

I did some with her for the first time in my life. Worked up to a triple at 145 and a single at 155. I usually do seated barbell press behind the head and I can get up to 205 for a single on a good day so it was quite humbling. But I'm sworn off behind the head presses for now until my shoulders feel better.

Without a doubt, Mrs. Flex can MP more than I can at this time! I shit you not!

Like I said at the time, I have not done ANY free weight lifting in 27+ years, but I know what is involved. The stuff I am doing now is about training the little muscles that control the weight, so I can get back the form to actually lift something heavy without killing myself. As I am sure you know, control is everything.

I can actually do a push up on my push up bars, and since most folks say that it takes a force of about 70% of your body weight to do a push up, I believe I currently have the strength to do a bench press of about 220 pounds (my current weight) times 0.7 = 154 pounds. My goal is to try to regain the form to do that sort of thing sometime shortly after the first of the year.

FWIW: If you're benching more than your body weight, I'm not sure I would describe both your shoulders as being "****ed". But like I said at the time of the bet, I am expecting to need to bench substantially more than my body weight to win the bet!

For a time, I hope so. However, I am older than you are, and have lots of arthritis to deal with along the way. How long my upward path lasts is the whole gig we talked about at the beginning, isn't it?

Others tried to make it into a shit storm at the other place, which is why I am fine with us finishing this gig here. If I lose because I whomped up on some benching, but you got a hold of the problems you have had and made major gains in 2020, I'll not only smile when I write the check, but be damn glad to admit I got my ass kicked.

I had no significant arthritis when I turned 50. The last 6 years have been rough on my body!
