And the first thing a lot of people do is disconnect that safety switch under the seat, so you can have it idle to pick up stuff........like BEER!

Garfias says he was cutting grass for his lawn service on July 26 when the lawnmower ran over him, slicing his legs and completely severing one knee cap.
Yeah, that would hurt.

Seems like the proximate cause of his injuries were the yellowjackets....an act of God. Perhaps he should be suing God, not the mower manufacturer.

There is NEVER a reason to disconnect the operator presence switch under the seat...if you want to get off and have the engine RUN...you set the parking brake, and get off.

If you want to operate the mower deck, you have to turn the blades off, then set the parking brake, or the engine, and blades, WILL turn off.

These seat switches have 2 poles...one allows it to start, and one allows it to spark, or disallows it to start, and kills spark. On a Husqvarna, if you remove the seat switch, or unplug it...the engine, will start, but not stay running, it will die as soon as the clutch is released. You have to physically manipulate the switch, either by taping or gluing it open...or rewiring it.

If the story is true...and the man exited the machine and it continued to run on its own, a faulty switch cannot be the cause. Not to say, they couldnt have quickly undone their modifications, after the incident....

That was so bad, it hurt....probably not as bad as getting run over by a riding mower, but it still hurt.

For years now, if some equipment comes in and the safety interlocks have been jumpered or unhooked, I always fix it before giving it back..and notate it on the bill. People get pissed..but I dont care. If they want to redo it, its on them. If I see it, and ignore it, its on me.

I had one last week though, nothing could be done..they had removed every wire from the mower except the starting circuit, and the kill circuit. it could be cranked..in gear, blades on, clutch out, standing next to it.
