Happened to us this morning. Called it in and got a message that the Texas grid is at emergency levels, therefore rolling blackouts to help control the grid.

They shut down our office in Austin today.

Strange, you'd think that ERCOT would have alerted the news media to urge their readers/viewers/listeners to conserve power voluntarily to avoid this very thing, just as they do during the Summer when a/c's are running out of control trying to beat back the heat.

So the power is out for about 45 minutes at a time? I heard hot water in the tub will help. A battery backup can power a space heater for a little while.

Not spazzing, but a little pissed that everything in fricking house has to be reset every time it happens. Wifi, routers, DirecTV reloads, all the clocks... not to mention the last time it made me need to go out and reset the breaker on the antique HVAC - outside - in the snow and 14 degrees.

I don't think it is so much the inconvenience or the fear of freezing to death as much as it is knowing that we are emulating 3rd world countries.

Based on what I have seen in summers past, if Texans had been warned there was a problem, I bet voluntary conservation would have eliminated most of the problem.

I mean, even in South Texas, we do own coats.
