No Garage Queen Here: Irving Gordon and his 2,741,000 mile '66 Volvo P1800...
With more mileage than all the Apollo missions combined, in 44 years the former science teacher has gone through 110 tires, 440 spark plugs, 788 oil filters and 3,143 quarts of oil. The car had one mechanic from 1966 to 2003, and engine has been rebuilt twice, once at 680,000 miles and again in 2009.
You can watch a 5 minute profile of Irving and his car on NOVAscienceNOW. Go the episode on PBS.org and click the pictures in the center of the page. The story on Irving and the Volvo begins at the two-minute mark. |

You can see stuff like that at the Bodies exhibit. They also have a cadaver where everything was removed except the blood vessels, which remained in the shape of the entire body.

It's pretty cool that Scoob's famous for this, though. That guy deserves some credit.

A P1800 that had been convertiblized was almost the car I got instead of my '73. It needed a new top w/frame though and I didn't want to hunt one of those down. As far as reliability I guess I shoulda got the P1800. The Stingray barely goes 100 miles without something going haywire.
