With high LMP's and Hub prices and if they buy into one of the ancillary service markets they might be making money on the deal. Don't know who your company is or their exposure to the energy market but if they're a large consumer of electricity I'm willing to bet they're at least somewhat hedged against high power prices and emergencies.

They did, when things went bad they sent out the notice. These are forced outages caused by record cold temperatures. Similar situations caused cascading outages in the Northeast back in 2003.

The easiest way to avoid these situations when weather gets abnormally extreme is redundant power supplies and transmission. Good luck getting a power plant or transmission sited, permitted and financed.

You remember industry? That's the thing that used to balance out our global trade? The thing that allows average Joes to have a middle class living rather than scratching out a dirt poor poverty existence? Remember back in the day when America still made stuff?

And back to the power plants, Texas has the pride of being a net exporter of energy to the other states. We have the pride of knowing that our state is not (by choice, anyway) part of the problem created by having to import foreign crude oil from repressive governments.

Finally, considering the amount of electricity lost during transmission, you'd think California would do the green thing, and build those power plants in state, and closer to the electricity customers. How much energy is wasted/how much greenhouse gas is produced by having to transmit all that electricity from Nevada to California?

Post Script:

Texas also is a national leader in the number of windmill power generators operating, but these, like solar energy, aren't going to keep the lights on by themselves. Until they do, then we need to throw everything we've got into being energy independent.

We Texans are trying to do our part; if only all the other states would do their part to help make this nation the self reliant country it once was.
You do know why Texas leading state for export of electrical power?
Texas has most lax laws for building power plants For few extra cents per KWH Texas can have smog that goes along with producing the power. Some people enjoy power plant in back yard, others do not.
California Economy eighth largest in world. Plenty of industry in California

How does a get off talking about how dirty Houston & Texas air is? It sure looks like California has far worse off than Texas. Most Polluted Cities - American Lung Association

And to top it off the state still couldn't support itself if it tried.

Houston in the 7th most polluted city, following 6 California cities.

How about we compare credit ratings of the states? I'm from Illinois, and even I think California is f'd up.

Most all those California cities are inland dump cities. Who wants to live in Fresno, Bakersfield ect. Most of California industry located on coast, wind blows inward. Why give them more pollution when Texas is happy to have it

Unless you are state worker or getting state benefits, who cares
I see no shortage of California's enjoying the good life
