Yes the single phone line days sucked. I had some software or service that would pop up incoming phone calls so I could pick up.

Yep, I had that too after my mom complained about not being able to get through in the evenings. Never did have a second line except for a fax machine.

When on AOL, I learned (from others) to copy posts, go offline, create my responses, then go back online to post them so I wouldn't burn all my time up.

The good old days.

As of July 2012, there were 24 million AOL Mail users.

By 2021, the number of paying users had dropped to 1.5 million

I don't know what they mean buy "paying". AOL stopped charging for email in 2006.

My wife still uses her AOL e-mail account. In a little over a year, she will have had it for 30 years.

I got my first cell phone in 1990, but didn't go to a second cell phone for us until 2002. When I got my own phone, I let her keep the old number, so she's had the same cell phone number for a third of a century.

Ha, I first went online in the spring of 1994 -- with AOL! Same year as you.

Around 1997 or so I started branching out into the whole internet, but kept my AOL account for another year or so.

I've had a Yahoo email addy since around that time. Started an Amazon account in 1997 also.

Sucks getting old.

Most email nowadays have very good spam filters.

I have my previously-mentioned Yahoo (web) account from the '90, very little spam, although I can't alter the spam filters.

For two other addies (gmail & hotmail) I use the free open-source Thunderbird client, same thing. It has the ability to "learn," plus I have complete control over what the filters see, act on, and what kind of action is taken. I see, essentially, no spam.
