Default Client requested an unusual design
Guy hired a house designer/ architect to design this window wall for a mountain cabin then asked me to design the structure for it. Wanted all the lines between windows as thin as possible, but did not want the expense of steel.

Design pressure 35psf for 140mph wind zone.

Not my taste, as I prefer more classical architecture, but I think it came out nice.

What kind of designer/architect farms out the structural work for their design ?
The three houses I had built all had the plans specifically laid out by the architect completely... I wouldn't even want the responsibility split among parties. Mountain cabin ? What if there was a snow load failure or latent defect ?

Every plan I have built has been done this way.

A designer is usually not a licensed structural engineer. And most architects have the knowledge and the seal, but usually are only involved in the design and scope of work.

Most, and I'd guess about 99% of, single family homes never have a licensed professional involved at any aspect of the design. That's how the residential codes are written. The codes are basically "cook books" on how to build simple structures.

Engineers only get involved when there is something that the codes don't address.
