The ride home
If you mean picking it up, it was a story. I had a friend with a dealer license buy the car for me at a car auction in ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Did a 'buy it now' on it and it was the first step in a comedy of errors. The EFT setup was down so the money for the car couldn't be transferred electronically, dealer said to just make a certified check made out to the dealership from my person in Minneapolis (which was done) and I brought it along with me. Planned to fly down Saturday and pick up the car and start the trip home to Minneapolis. Got down there, got to the lot and the car was gone. Seems the auction site picked up the car saturday and locked it up till monday morning. So we're stuck till Monday morning. The dealership loaned us an 2012 Infinity to drive till monday so we explored ALBUQUERQUE that weekend. There's another fly here, my wife has medical issues and only brought enough meds to cover through Monday.
Monday comes, head down to the auction site with the dealers rep and the cerified check made out to the dealer. The auction site would not accept the check or allow it to just be handed to the dealer rep, had to pay the auction site and they pay the dealer. Had to find a local branch of my bank, pull the money a 2d time out of my account to pay for the car and went back to the auction site with cash this time. Got the car, started heading out. Didn't have an owners manual and couldn't find the digital gas gauge so found a gas station: took over 18.5 gals and it's got a 20 gallon tank (talk about close). Hit the road and had 2 issues enroute. I set the alarm somehow at a gas stop and didn't know how to stop it from honking, so I unhooked the horns for the rest of the drive. Near the end of the first days driving, the 'low coolant' light came on so it was find some antifreeze and a place for the night. Checked next morning and everything was fine, no coolant issue. Took off and 20-30 miles down the road the light came back on. Figuring it was likely a sensor or something, coming out of a small town punched it - light went out and never came back on. Drove 1350 miles home without an issue and got my wife her meds and the car got a best of 32 mpg at 75 MPH on the way (that was the legal speed limit). Drove a couple of days (on vacation that week) and all was good. Drove it to work the following monday and on the way home the clutch pedel went to the floor. Had it towed to my mechanic, new clutch master and slave and it's done. In fact I get to pick it up tonight after work. I had to get my $$ from the certified check, and ironically I'd talked to my mechanic to go over the car a couple of days before the clutch hydraulics went out. Now it's just a matter of doing some fluid changes, already done the oil and power steering, still have to do the brakes and antifreeze and it should be good for many years to come. While it was on the hoist having the master and slave done, I had a chance to look at the tranny (it's been replaced in the past) and it has a Tremec 5 speed in it currently That's my story and I'm sticking to it Paul |

I got my OW in Seattle (Salty's Cove II to be precise) then did most of my diving up there. Then my 'first big trip' to Akumal (an hour south of Cancun), was awesome! Then nothing for a few years, then went to San Carlos, MX once, and Cozumel (best diving evar! Well, so far anyway! LOL!). I'm hoping against hope that I can get my damn bills paid off in time to participate in the annual Bonaire trip that the dive club here sponsors, in Feb. I'd better get a move on! Have a good one, stay wet! Paul |
