Trouble will definitely start when he stops feeding them.

Our cat Eddie loves being outside, he was a stray when he showed up here. We are loathe to leave food outside because of critters (coons, possums, and other cats mainly) but then Eddie will claw at our bedroom window screen several times during the night to wake us up. We'll let him in, he'll munch food for 10 minutes, and then begin meowing instantly for us to let him out. During the winter it's not bad because he'll come inside and stay for several hours before demanding to be let out again. But this spring it was causing my wife and I to get really shitty sleep, so we relented and started leaving a bowl of food on the back patio, up on a storage box a few feet off the ground next to his cat bed.

But this morning around 5:00 AM there he was clawing at the screen again. And sure enough, something had ate his entire bowl of food we left out last evening.

Obligatory picture of Eddie eating a serrano chili.

My wife left an open bag of cat food on our screened porch. The porch is on the second story of the rear of the house. A pair of raccoons came up the stairs and were able to push the screen enough so that the spline popped and got in. I happened to turn on the porch light and saw them tearing into the food.

Funny we understand the concept, then do the exact opposite as a society.

I've fed raccoons in my area of Los Angeles for years. On my roof deck actually, they climb the ginkgo tree to get there. I'm still waiting for an attack.

I'd rather tangle with a 120 lb plus dog than a 30 lb raccoon. They will mess you up bad and very quickly

Oh I agree they are very capable. I've seen a tough dog lose to one myself.
