Default Travel advice...

My wife and I are looking to go somewhere in the continental US in late February. We had kicked around Las Vegas, but are not set on that. What other cities would one suggest us to check out. We are in our 30's, no kids, not big party type people....I would love to go to Vegas, but it's not really bowling me over. Also, I have never flown...not that I have a fear of it, just never needed to. Would like to keep the round trip cost per person under the $325 mark for a flight. Shoot....

We're driving up to Asheville for a long weekend on 2/15.
Love that area, 19 microbreweries.

We honeymooned in Asheville. We love the town...However, I have a chance to fly, for free...My boss is paying for my ticket to go anywhere that $350 will carry to and from...so I would like to go somewhere that we can't drive...

Need a bit more info about what kind of trip you are looking for. Warm ? Cold ? Fine dining? Sports? History ?

If you've never been to Washington DC, I'd suggest you start there. Make it early March when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. You have a crapload of museums and buildings your tax dollars have paid for that you can see. Drive out of the city a bit and you can explore all the civil war sights such as Gettysburg, Antietam and Harper's Ferry. Some fantastic dining downtown as well.

Then I'd go ahead and head to Vegas. We've been several times. I'm not much of a gambler or party animal, but there are some really great shows there.
Damn sure a sight to see.

Yeah...Not a big gambler either...enjoy it, no bankroll to support it. The shows are what would draw us in.

We love the slower ways of life...I would love to be on a ranch in Montana or Wyoming..but air travel is cost prohibitive, and there is snow up there during that time that could make travel difficult.

That's the great thing about DC-you can do it on a budget. All the Smithsonian museums, National Zoo, etc are free (except the Air Space by Dulles Airport) $20 to park but the museum is free.

How about go somewhere like Park City UT or one of the many resorts in Colorado and take ski lessons? I did that when I turned 40 and have been skiing several times since. It's a lot of fun.

I am checking out the DC flights right now...Thanks for the advice. Seeing if the wife is interested in going...I would love it. I love Military History, and that place is chock full of it and other COOL shit...Along with a bunch of dumbass politicians too.

Plus, I REALLY want to see Arlington and all that goes with it, even though it isn't right with DC...is it?

Bad/Brittle hip with a metal bar connecting it keeps me from trying to slide down any mountains....Would love to do it though!

Arlington Cemetery is right there as well. There are sightseeing buses that you can buy all day passes on that drive the entire area. You can get on and off these buses all day long with one fare. Plus the Metro (underground rail system) is quite easy to use and safe.
If you really want to get into the military side, let me know. There is Aberdeen Proving grounds with one of the most awesome collection of tanks, rail mounted guns, and military dress through the years. Ft. McHenry in Baltimore, plus all the Civil War battlefields.

I'm about 20 miles out of DC in Maryland. To lower your hotel costs, you can look at the Metro lines and find a hotel within a short distance to an access. You can actually get away without a car if you fly into Reagan International. There is a Metro access to that airport.

Arlington National Cemetery is a place every American needs to visit at least once in their lifetimes.

Puerto Rico.. No passport needed, plenty of cheap flights connecting through miami/lauderdale too.

Go defrost for a bit and experience a different culture.

That's what i would do if i were you anyway.
