Default Gary, when is it time to strip the paint off? How?

Going to eventually re-paint my car again... probably will prep it next winter and spray it in 2011. Car has lots of paint on it now... nowhere near as much as the black car had on it before you stripped it down.

How do you know when it's time to strip it? My concern is that another round of paint will be too mcuh.

Would you sand it aggressively starting with 300 or 400 grit and take off lots of paint, or go ahead and strip it down?

If strip... how? How'd you go about getting all the piant off of yours without sanding into the composite and plastic panels?

Liquid stripper! I'm sure he will chime in but I've seen him do it a few times. And in my opinion, if you think you have a lot of paint on there then you probably do.

On the older vettes that I used to own, I always chemical stripped them. I used spray strip or aircraft paint remover.... Kinda nice, you could almost strip an entire car in 1 day!

Chris

edit: Oh yeah, don't forget to keep a bucket of water nearby, use gloves, and apply 2 inch masking tape across body seams/gaps.... you can come back and finish up the gaps/seams with a razor blade or sand paper...

Gary or GB Vette is the owner / proprietor of the Vette Barn and he started this forum. Yes the Vette Barn is an actual place here in Suffolk, VA where GB performs diabolical magic to his Vettte and helps others do the same to theirs.

Don't tell him I said this but secretly I call him Uncle Gary.
