Well, what's the worst car you ever owned?
Number 125. A 1998 GMC Jimmy. Green/grey interior 4.3 V6, 2wd, at ac power everything. Absolutely the biggest piece of crap ever made. Wheel hubs and bearings crap, and more electrical issues than a tenement house from the fifties. Windows, ac blower, ac compressor, wipers, it was always something. The final straw was when the ac compressor died and the next day the power window master control switch shorted out locking the windows in the up position. Wife was in Florida, and it was August. As soon as she got back I made repairs and sold it. What a turd. I did have several others like it that were great (Olds Bravada was really nice and only issue was rear caliper locked up) but this one was crap.

Never had a bad car because I never bought very new cars, so issues with prospective purchases were already known. Every car I've ever bought has been at least 10 years old. The worst but still not bad were a couple of B5 Passats, just usual vw electrical gremlins.

2002 Corvette ZO6.
Worst money trap of my life. Never runs more than a few weeks before yet another weird thing breaks. Had it 11 years now and only put about 10,000 miles on it. Wife wants to set it on fire, regardless of insurance paying or not. Dead again now. Ugh. |

1955 VW. It would not go over 50mph even if you got out and
pushed it. Tiny rear window and tail lights. The Peoples Car. I got rid of it fast. |

All of my domestics have been piles, but the one that pushed me over the edge was a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7L Hemi. Bought it used in 2007 with very few miles. The list is long - everything from needing a water pump every 10k miles to the spare tire falling off. Even the TPMS broke. Interior door handles would disintegrate and fall down inside the door.

2015 Mazda CX9
Bought 3 years ago with 20k on the odo (one owner, clean carfax etc) and was in the shop several times a year. Failed ignition coils, fuel injectors, and a host of other horse shit. Last week, with 75K on the odo, it left my wife stranded halfway to her folks house in VA. The engine is toast because the water pump failed and leaked coolant into the engine. What fukk-tard engineer designed a water pump to have any type of access to the crankcase? No worries, a new motor only costs $12k... Gonna toss in a rebuilt and toss that POS. Just found there was a class action suit about the flaw but Mazda was allowed to slide. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/produc...r-pump-failure Scott

I have done well with all my car purchases through the years, all have performed as expected.
The real problems start when you try to double+ the HP. |

I was an auto tech when Renaults were re-introduced in the early '80's, but remember hearing the F-word for the first time around 1962 from Dad in our '59 Dauphine when the shifter came off. (or was it the door handle?) Just a piece of crap, and they were everywhere....for about 5 minutes. Same deal with Renault in the early '80's. Absolute crap. Pissed off owners with new, broken cars with no parts available. George C Scott saying "The one to watch" on the ads. Poor Mr. Scott! And then, twenty years later, Fiat. Those of us who were there in the '70's know better. Those who were not or who forgot: beware. In industry, the early Ford Exploders really DID explode, the GM smaller vehicles were crap, and Subaru then and now----crap. And I won't even start with German cars. |

2004 Volvo S60R. I bought used and know why it was dumped. Within 6 months of ownership the awd failed, clutch was replaced, suspension replaced, and a couple other things that I can't recall. As I was meeting its soon to be new owner, the alternator took a shit.

Notice that most of the cars are American. The three worst scars i owned were American. The last American car i've owned was in 2007 and that was a Corvette.
