What happened to the last pup you were fostering? I must have missed that update.

To be honest, I am content to just dog-sit as I have a lot of health issues I am contending with right now...but my friend, while not yet terminal, may pass away at some point in the future, in which case she will need a home. We’ve had that discussion already, and I have agreed to give her a home here with me

So, while I’m not seeking it out, it may happen anyway some here may recall Cosmo and Clara coming into our care after another friend of mine passed away unexpectedly...it appears I may just be the ‘keeper of orphaned dogs’
Sorry to hear about your health issues. Best wishes for your friend.

Good on your for loving their fur baby during their time of need. ❤️👍
I understand that all too well as Cosmo came into my care due to a friend who died unexpectedly...and he got very depressed, lost a bunch of weight, developed anxiety, etc. We weren't sure he was going to make it. But, I refused to give up, adopted him and took him to a vet who specialized in animal behavioral issues, got him on some medication, and took him to new/different places than his owner took him to create new memories and good times. While he wasn't ever 'perfect', he got much better. I posted some threads here several years ago about his ordeal, and got a lot of encouragement from folks here. He was my 'heart dog' and I miss him terribly.

As for this friend (from our local shelter's pet loss group), he started hospice care in June; we found out about it in August, so I have been coming by 4x/week to help walk/feed/take care of doggo since I only live 8 miles away (pet loss group pitched in for a dog-walking service for the other 3 days/week)...and also found that he didn't have much family around, was not doing well (in a lot of pain, difficulty walking, no appetite, nausea, etc) so I also tried to help with meals/apartment care/etc. He has since been eating better, gained some weight back, and has even come with us on some walks...so he got backed down to palliative care from hospice care (as one of his family members somewhat bluntly put, 'he wasn't dying fast enough for them').

Sadly he is end-stage/incurable so he may end up being back on hospice care at some point, but in the meantime I am just doing whatever I can to improve QOL, take care of them both, make as many good memories as possible...and provide a home for Little Girl if/when she needs it.
