The point of the song is absolutely true. I grew up in a very small town, moved to Atlanta 33 years ago, and just moved back to the same very small town. Things work differently here...better.

In the past 24 hours I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous. There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it- and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage -and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music- this one goes too far.

As so many pointed out, I was present at Route 91-where so many lost their lives- and our community recently suffered another heartbreaking tragedy. NO ONE, including me, wants to continue to see senseless headlines or families ripped apart.

Try That In A Small Town, for me, refers to the feeling of a community that I had growing up, where we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief. Because they were our neighbors, and that was above any differences. My political views have never been something I’ve hidden from, and I know that a lot of us in this Country don’t agree on how we get back to a sense of normalcy where we go at least a day without a headline that keeps us up at night. But the desire for it to- that’s what this song is about.

Our city is > 3k.
Our county aprox 7k +/-

We have eleven churches for < 3k residents.
We know where our leadership resides and have daily interactions with them throughout the community.
We demand kids respect thier community and in turn the community builds a bmx track, a skate park, bike trails and a stocked pond for trout fishing for young children. Fishing, shooting and hunting are a way of life. As is trail riding and boating. All within a few miles
We prosecute ALL criminals.
Even weed is a misdemeanor.
You will do 2 days minimum county jail time for ANY misdemeanor.
Felony is automatic prison time.
All crimes including infractions are posted in the paper etc.
We have ZERO fast-food restaraunts and do not allow them. Corporate influences are non existent.
We have no tract homes and extremely limited number of low income and rental housing.
We are 97% caucasion ( 3% native American).
We allow freedom to arm yourself and shoot criminal threats whether you are home, in your car or in public.
We throw-out of office those that don't serve OUR community.
We support LE and are patrolled by a small city police force, county sheriffs and state police.

Just to name a few.

There are TONS of similar towns throughout the US.

Yet...he gave you the correct answer. The kind of shit that's happening in all the liberal cities will never happen where I live. We don't have many Amish in my town, and the ones we do have are good people. The "bad" Amish don't dare to commit crime here because they know it won't be tolerated.

And the town I live in is one of them!

That video is at the Maury County courthouse in Columbia, TN, where Jason lives. We visited the square often when we lived in Spring Hill (Jason's mom lives in Spring Hill; we would see his Ford Raptor around town occasionally).

He describes small town life & values perfectly in this song - in our current "small town" home in IL (2K population), the town was recently rocked by a fatal car accident that took the life of a 9YO resident during the annual carnival; he was the grandson of the owner of the local IGA. The community has come around the family in a strong show of support - a memorial account was opened in his name, all proceeds from the fair are going to his family, and a GoFundMe started for funeral expenses was fully funded within a couple of days. THAT'S the small town values Jason is singing about.

Our police cars have “In God We Trust” on them.

A few years ago the county sheriff got pushback about it. He said as long as he’s sheriff it stays. The story and the sheriff made the national news.

BTW - he was re-elected in an overwhelming landslide.

While that recently is a truth, I don't think that was the start of it. When we allowed politicians to pander to minorities and make promises they had NO intention of keeping, it all went to hell.

Campaigning politicians ideally should have 50 things they intend to accomplish or 50 things the citizens INSIST they accomplish and a final score of how well they did. Low score, no candidacy for re-election. You're out...NEXT !
